If she owns the salon, the profits are hers 100%. She sets the prices. She is not working under someone who takes the majority of what someone pays for a cut. If she isn't making enough to pay the rent and support a living, she should increase her fees. I don't tip owners of anything.
This. I don't tip the owner.

Yup. Always have and always will. I honestly never heard of not tipping an owner until LIF.
Ditto, they may not work on a salary but they have overhead. I tip based on service, not who serves me

I always make the attempt but most owners I have come across will not accept it. I think it is in poor taste for the owner (of any business) to accept tips.
Agreed
I learned this as a teenager when I went for a cut I tipped it was the owner, he told me no you never tip an owner.
I feel this applies to all owners

Well I tipped her (owner) 20% and she took it no problem. Its her first salon, just starting out .. nothing fancy trying to build her business. I liked how she cut my hair and took care of me. I used a Groupon so it was not a big deal to give her a lil extra.

Yes. I tip regardless who cuts my hair. The owner would get the same tip anyone else would. They are the owner, but they are still providing a service to you.

I agree.
The guy who cuts my hair is the owner and I've always tipped him.
It never even crossed my mind to not tip him because he owns the place.

Sometimes. Myh salon has 2 owners. One does my color and the other usuallly does my cuts. They do great work and they let me set up my office to work there (so I can go when they're quiet instead of taking up a weekend spot). I sometimes tip, I have had the tip given back to me once or twice, so after that I have tipped less frequently. I also buy the products there, etc, so they're making a lot of money on me. I dont want to give them less than they deserve but I figure they are getting the full amt of money for the cut, PLUS it's more epxpensive to have them do my hair vs. the other people, so I don't necessarily feel I need to tip.
ETA: I feel like the cost of the haircut include the overhead of the salon and what portion they pay the hairdresser, plus profit. If it's a reglar hairdresser, she's getting just the pay amount, but the owners are getting the pay (which is already higher) plus the profit, so I don't think it's neccessary to tip. I still fee awkward about this either way and don't have a definitive answer

No, I don't. I've never tipped an owner before.
I recently switched haircutting places and tried to tip the new person who cut and colored my hair.
She refused and told me that she doesn't accept tips because she owns the salon.
