If the power goes out... (milk related)
Would you give your LO's formula if they have already switched to milk? I'm thinking about picking up a few cannisters of powdered formula. Good idea? Bad idea?

Re: If the power goes out... (milk related)
I"m putting milk in sippy cups and storing them in a large cooler with other things I'll need for a day or two like fruit, precooked food, etc... This way if the power goes out, I can keep my fridge closed and just access the food and drinks I need from the cooler.
Luckily, we have a gas oven so I'll be able to still heat food by lighting the gas with a match.

Re: If the power goes out... (milk related)
it canot hurt at all. they just may not want to drink it.
try getting the boxed stabilized milk instead.
OR, stock up on LOTS of ice and a huge cooler. with one or two smaller ones for quick access so you don't have to open th bigger one as often and it stays cold.

Formula would never hurt anyone- even us. It just might taste yucky to them after getting used to milk. Meaning- they won't drink it!

If they have switched to milk you can find shelf stable milks in the store (if any are left). Then you don't have to worry - they are single serving size juice boxes.

Shelf stable milk. Horizon makes it, pharmalat, or store brand. They have powdered too.

Re: If the power goes out... (milk related)
I just bought a bunch of shelf stable milk. If we end up not needing it, then it will go in our emergency container if g-d forbid we ever need it.

We have some bottles of vanilla pediasure in the house (landon gets them as a treat) so will use those in case of emergency.

yup that's what we have. they can deal with low fat milk for a bit. the regular milk should stay cold for a while anyway. i'm making tons of ice in the freezer now and on Saturday I'll turn my fridge and freezer onto very low settings until the storm is over.

Re: If the power goes out... (milk related)
this might be a silly question, but where in the store do they have the shelf stable milk? I meant to grab some yesterday, but completely forgot and I honestly don't know where to look if I go back!

Yep I got dd formula (2 canisters of it), she is only off of milk for 3 weeks so I think she will still drink. If its not needed I'll return it.

I have shelf stable milk (Horizon and Organic Valley) in the house. I figure if I run out, at least I have juice boxes/pouches

Re: If the power goes out... (milk related)
My kids are older (17 mos and almost 3), they can go a few days without milk, so I'm not going to worry about it, but I would buy the Horizon stuff if they were younger.
