I use frozen because I usually make homemade dishes and steak so there is plenty for those who don't want a frozen burger.

Re: If you are throwing a BBQ (having guests over)
I buy everything pre-made...
You would know this if you came through last Sunday
but anyway...
We had about 50+ people, and went through 75 burgers, 5 bags of chips, 3 lbs of potato salad, macaroni salad, and anti-pasta.

Re: If you are throwing a BBQ (having guests over)
It depends on how many people I am having over.
If I am having a huge amount of people (25 or better) I will not bother making burgers - I will buy them from Costco. But I will also make things so that those that are averse to pre-made burgers can eat happily.
For example - packaged burgers and hot dogs - BUT - homemade BBQ chicken, Homemade Sausage and Peppers and homemade salads.
If burgers are going to be the main entree that I am serving - then I will make them myself. And I make a DAMN good burger.

Fresh burgers from the butcher. I also try to make my own side salads, but occasionally I get them from a great deli around here and they taste homemade.

I really enjoy cooking and entertaining. I won't serve anything pre-made except buns.

pre made. I work 60 hour + weeks, im not going to spend my few free minutes shaping hamburgers. Im picky with food too - but premade burgers are probably safer than making your own (E. Coli), since you arent taking room temperature chop meat and making it yourself.

Re: If you are throwing a BBQ (having guests over)
If it's a small bbq we make our own burgers. If it's going to be a lot of people we make a bunch ourselves and then buy a package of pre-made in case we need extra.

room temp? who does that? I don't. sometimes the meat is so cold it hurts my hands...just wanted to clarify.
I feel you have far more control over your food when you make it yourself.

I have seen on Food Network that you should cook meat when it is room temp, not cold. Something about it going from very cold to hot. I don't really cook that much so I don't know.
Also, I agree that you have more control over your food when you make it. But, I think some people buy chopped meat patties and season it themselves. That's what my mom does. That is totally different than buying Bubba burgers or something like that.

yes, when you cook the meat, it's better to put in on the fire at or close to room temp so it cooks thoroughs...but that has nothing to do with ecoli....or the temp at which you begin to prepare.
food tv is awesome.

I agree. As long as you wash your hands afterwards there's no problems
Do you watch Guy (I can't think of his last name) of Food TV? "Always wash your hands after touching the proteins"
