I have a question. I see people now scared about the Delta Variant but how about next year and the year after that. Every year its gonna be something new. Are we just forever going to wear masks? And its alot of dreaming to think everyone including children will be vaccinated. So when do you stop being scared? or will people just realize its here forever and you just need to live with it and move on with life?

As long as there is media promoting and scaring people, some will always be worried and wear a mask. Stop testing, stay home if sick, and only go to the hospital in dire need. There has always been hypochondriacs and there always will be. The ones that run to the doctor or ER for the smallest things that don’t need to be.
Suffolk County has had no deaths and that is what the goal is. Not sure about other states as I have not looked and if anyone who is afraid of this variant would like to provide numbers, that would be great.
Many just listen to whatever is told to them and don’t really do their own research to see things are not always as bad as the media tells them it is.

I work for a major NYC hospital system and we were told the numbers are rising as are hospital admissions and ICU cases. These are FACTS based on data collected daily. Viruses only mutate if they have hosts and the more people vaccinated the lower the rate the Covid virus (or any virus) will mutate- another scientific FACT- Many of us scientists have all continued to wear our masks indoors regardless because people do not stay home when they are sick and many in our region share BS false “facts” with little regard for anyone but themselves. You can look up the data yourself but in the past month the total number of cases in NYS went from about 0.25% to over 1% if the spread continues at the same rate the fall is going to look a lot like last year- getting ill and being hospitalized is a strain on the healthcare system- there is more to it than how many people die from Covid in Suffolk county.
The Covid alert NY app will allow you to look at your tiny piece of the universe in Suffolk as well as the rest of NYS.

U’re saying that if the spread continues at the same rate, the fall is going to look a lot like last year? How so considering the majority of people have been vaccinated already (starting from age 12 and up)?

I would love to know that too.

So your saying it doesn't matter that all these people on long island got vaccinated?

Also, how does one expect 100 percent of people to get vaccinated? I know i'm not gonna be first online for kids getting vaccinated no matter how much its "forced". So are you saying every year will be the same since every year will surely be something new.

I did not say it doesn’t matter that people got vaccinated BUT kids 12 and under and unvaccinated adults still make up a good percentage of the population. There are still break through infections and it may be possible for a vaccinated adult to infect their unvaccinated child. The vaccine is most effective at preventing death and reducing the symptoms like we have seen with other vaccines like the flu and chicken pox vaccines.
I also did not say 100% of people need to be vaccinated but the population needs to meet a threshold of immunity to eliminate spreed- it has been done with other infectious disease like polio but YES there will be new infections that arise over time. This is not a new concept. Over time there will be new viruses and new strains of old ones. The idea is to minimize risk. Vaccines help minimize the risk. These are facts that have been observed over time with different vaccines. Our society is selfish as a whole- many people do not stay home when they are sick- this too is not new. If we stop testing it is not going to eliminate the risk it is just going to stop keeping track of it but some like the ignorance is bliss approach to life.

I don’t think it is bliss but just like every other virus that we don’t have numbers every single day, stay home and only get tested when truly needed and need medicine to cure. Imagine if we got numbers everyday for every time someone went to get tested for the flu or step or pneumonia, etc, etc. of course it would scare people.

I don’t agree at all and workplaces need to be more lenient but many don’t stay home because they won’t get paid and possibly lose their jobs. Most of us are fortunate to have sick days and don’t think twice and forget the ones that literally live paycheck to paycheck and maybe new at their jobs or just have ones that don’t offer many days off.

You think this is "just like every other virus"???What kind of insane thinking is that? In case you haven't been paying attention (which clearly you haven't), this is far far different from all other viruses. THIS virus shut down the entire world. Information is knowledge that can be acted upon to help stop the spread and help prevent deaths. That line of thinking - oh, this is just like the flu - is moronic.

Thanks for your input but I can’t have a mature conversation with someone who just insists on constantly calling me names.
Have a lovely day.

You can't have a mature conversation with anyone. And certainly not a fact based conversation. The reason you get attacked on here is because of the blatantly false and misleading things you post - constantly and in a condescending manner. If you ever tried to have a mature conversation, you might find your thoughts would be more well received.

Information is knowledge that can be acted upon to help stop the spread and help prevent deaths. That line of thinking - oh, this is just like the flu - is moronic.

My bad, 14 not sixteen.. either way I don't live in Missouri so your stalking skills are a bit off and you aren't as good as it as you would think. If you're so good, where do I live now? I have no clue and don’t care where you actually live.
You mentioned St. Louis 11 years ago and not stalking as you mentioned where you lived multiple times.

We could have eradicated this.

Just out of curiosity, without closing our borders, how do you think that we could have eradicated this? This is a global pandemic and there are not nearly enough doses of the vaccine nor the resources to administer it globally at this point. If the virus is still ravaging other countries with the opportunity for vaccine resistant strains to develop in those countries, why would it matter if the US reaches herd immunity right now? This is not 1920 with the spanish flu where people were not traveling all over the globe the way we are now.

I think if the messaging from the previous administration made it serious, united us, explained how patriotic it is to come together as one people and beat this, it would have helped matters greatly.

Instead, it became joking about diapers on faces, how churches should be packed on easter, freedums, and sowed discourse and created divisions.

You did not answer my question at all. You are so busy blaming the previous administration that you fail to realize that the US makes up just a small part of the global population and unless we close our borders completely we are susceptible to viruses that mutate all over the world. In fact, most of the variants developed overseas and were then brought to the US.

If you are vaccinated, are you still wearing a mask?

At this point, the risk is to the unvaccinated.
That's a risk they are taking.
I am vaccinated, I have protection versus someone who has none. I did what I was supposed to do, followed the rules, and got vaxxed. It was a civic responsibility for the greater good.
People who don't get vaxxed don't get to complain. You made your choice, live with it.
The whole point is to lessen deaths and hospitalizations if you get COVID, the vaccine is doing exactly what it was supposed to do.

I agree completely. I also feel that now, because the Delta variant is spreading so rapidly (due to the high number of unvaccinated in so many states) it is putting all of us at risk again. This new wave could have been avoided and yes, I blame those who refuse to get vaccinated. When mask mandates return and shut downs loom again, it is on the backs of the unvaccinategd. If you didn't do your part, you have no right to complain.

Yes u’ve made it crystal clear...a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” like I heard Biden so ignorantly say. There’s no need to reiterate what u already said, really.

It’s so weird, it’s almost like certain people want mask mandates and lockdowns to come back?!? U said...WHEN mask mandates and shut downs come back. Maybe u meant “if”?? Don’t focus on that, u’ve been vaccinated like the majority of people so u’re protected, right?

Exactly.

And complain they will. They'll be the loudest.

If someone is really fearful of the vaccine to the point that they don't want to get it but are willing to mask up, avoid indoor places, and generally stay home, that's one thing. I knew someone like that although they recently got the shot. For several months they did what they thought best for themselves while protecting others.

But those people seem to be rare. It's clear from people's responses on here that many unvaccinated people are gleefully ripping off the masks wherever they go, mocking the honor system and doing as they please. It's reprehensible at this point.

Yeah, right, I WANT all of that to happen again Chat Icon . I do believe we are headed in that direction and that it will come to that. I won't be happy about it, but I have started to think it is inevitable - you know, because I am brainwashed by the evil media. And I'll say it as many times as I want. (You certainly have no problem with your sidekick WW repeating herself over and over and over again).

And because the current vaccines are less (not ineffective, just less) effective against the Delta variant (and probably any new ones that develop), even those who are vaccinated will face a greater risk (not as great a risk as the unvaccinated, but still a greater risk than if the variant wasn't so infectious)

Covid is a world pandemic and far from any other virus BUT the number of flu cases ARE reported by the CDC weekly:
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/fluactivitysurv.htm

So there is no need for me to image what it would be like to keep track of the number of infections because this information is readily available to anyone who cares to look it up.

As for people working when they are ill it is selfish!! Covid or not stay home when you are ill. I have been fortunate enough to always work in an environment where employees were given ample sick time and people STILL come to work sick like it is some type of badge of honor. My husband is a small business owner and encourages his employees to stay home when ill. What purpose does it serve to infect your co workers??
Many of us have had times where finances were tight and we needed to work but the majority of bosses I have encountered are understanding especially now when most businesses do not want anyone with any symptoms of a cold or virus on the premises.
You go on about facts and data but in the end it seems that you really just want to live in a pre Covid world and for now that is just not the case.
Irresponsible adults are putting the kids under 12 at risk since they cannot be vaccinated- keep that in mind when you feel burdened by wearing a mask for a few minutes when near someone else’s child.

This isn’t fear mongering. I also did not say children are dying in droves so please DO NOT twist my words with your drama but since we still do not know all of the long term effect (but we do know there are long term effects based on current evidence) so prevention seems like the safest route! The few people I know who had Covid were very ill. One was hospitalized and is still on medication to prevent blood clots.
I am not saying lock you child up (speak of fear mongering) but it seems prudent to try to prevent them from getting sick- children have died and there is no way to determine who will get a mild case and who will get very ill.

“Still, there is no evidence that children are more susceptible to the delta variant of the virus than others who are unvaccinated or that it causes more severe illness.

Dr. Sean O'Leary, vice chair of the committee on infectious diseases for the American Academy of Pediatrics, said “it is more contagious in kids just like it's more contagious in other unvaccinated individuals, but it's not more contagious in kids than other unvaccinated individuals.”

Because several and I mean SEVERAL of her friends have had covid. And 99% had zero symptoms at all . And 1% had a sniffle and a head cold
So enough of this fear monger about our children dying in droves from this.

Still looking for dearh rates in kids.
Kids die from flu as well.
I believe more die from flu than Covid
Why can't kids under 12 be vaccinated yet?
Every other age group was fast tracked.
Maybe Because their risk is minuscule.
