If you do have Obamacare, what plan did you chose and with what insurance carrier?

So, now that they extended the deadline to sign up till April 15th, I am still desperately trying to finish what I started and see if we can get on a plan.

Could you please share with me what you have (silver, bronze, etc) and with what carrier (Empire, Fidelis, etc.) and how you like it do far? Also, if you are experiencing difficulties finding doctors who accept it...

Thank you!

I don't have it, but I signed up my mom for it and DH's parents. They both signed up for MetroPlus - I think the middle plan, I forget exactly which one. My in laws are still waiting to get their information (just signed up at the end of March), but my mom has had it for a few weeks now and has no issues w/ appointments or finding a doctor. The only annoying thing with MetroPlus is you can't pay online or via phone, so it's all through checks.

We took Empire Blue Shield Blue Cross. Silver Plan. It's ok. I would have preferred less of a deductible and taken the gold plan, but hubby likes to roll the dice on whether or not we will go enough to reach our deductible.

So far, no issues, all doctors have been in the plan and accepting. The only issue I see is hospitals. The ones we would "prefer" are not in the plan. But one we would use is, so that's ok so far.

A friend took EmpireBlue Cross Blue Shield, not sure what level, but it turned out that she really needed it. All three hospitals she went to took it. All CAT scans and MRIs were covered - although her sister checked beforehand to be sure. There were surgeons at both hospitals that would take it also.

Have you tried calling your drs office and asking which plans they take. Because that might make the decision for you.

I got a Blue Cross Blue Shield platinum plan with no deductible

I love it- is it perfect no

but my rxs are so much cheaper,

did all my doctors take it- no- but it wasn't hard to find new better ones that did- I am not the kind of person that MUST stick with the same doctor- in fact I hated my endo and now I love my new one

change isn't always bad

my new primary- I never had one before- sent me to her gyn- what's better then that- they all take my plan- no issues

I have the Fidelis Care Gold Plan.

I had to find a new OB, but becuase I am pregnant I already reached my $600 deductible. The gold plan when you add up the premium, deductible, and max out of pocket cost saves you about $3000 a year as opposed to the silver plan.

I like that I don't need a referral to see a specialist. A lot of the other plans require a referral from your PCP.

But doesn't it only pay for 80% of the bill? You are responsible for 20% of everything, right? Or is it only before you reach "max out of pocket expense"?

Based on looking at the summary of benefits it only looks like certain things require coinsurance of 20% like glasses, and durable medical equipment. Otherwise there are just copayments that are due. For example everytime I get an ultrasound I have a $40 copay.

I have Fidelis Care Silver. $250 deductible, then everything is paid in full. I met that deductible with a visit to the ER. You only pay your co-pay after that. No co-insurance with my plan. Cards came quickly, customer service is good. No referrals required. Not all doctors accpet it though. You have to be very specific when you call to inquire, and say the exact plan. Some take Fidelis Medicaid, Medicare, etc., but not the plans from the exchange that we pay for.

I don't have Obamacare, and while it is very controversial, I just wanted to say that reading this thread makes me happy.

For some reason, that is not an option for me! Chat Icon Chat Icon

How is eligibility for certain plan is determined, I wonder...

Weird....I thought all of the plans were available to everyone. When you go on to look at them, they all show up. Gold Silver and Bronze. Are you in NY?If so, maybe it's County dependent? I'm in Suffolk. IIRC there were a couple of pages to sort through. Maybe you aren't viewing them all?

It must be different from when I signed up then. I signed up in December. I just went on the State's site, and found this PDF, and this is definitely not the plans that were listed in the exchange site in December. There were different tiers of Bronze, Silver and Gold IIRC. The co-pays look different. Some had a higher deductible. http://www.healthbenefitexchange.ny.gov/sites/default/files/Standard%20Products.pdf

We have Health Republic Platinum because Stony Brook takes it. We are covered starting next month but there is no deductible and the max out of pocket is very small.
