If push came to shove, I would vaccinate. I am not a fan of it for my pre pubescent children, but I think they are most likely safe. I would prefer more trials on children their age though.
Same. Although I am vaccinated and trust it for myself, not for them just yet.
Though I do think the chances of their education/social skills suffering from me trying to work and homeschool are far greater than the vaccine risks.
Totally agree, I am in the same boat. some people who dont have kids should not be giving their 2 cents in.
It is hard enough for us parents to make this decision and then to hear from ones who will never have to trying to tell us what to do.
Aren’t your children college-aged and able to decide themselves? At a certain age it’s not the parents decision anymore.
I have minor children that still need my consent.
I thought you’ve said you have college aged kids, that you were glad you were done with the school process, so they’d at youngest be 17. Unless I’m mixing you up with someone else.
Don’t they need a vaccine to attend their colleges?
Wow
I added to my post. My question is if a kid is 17 and about to be attending college but they need parent consent, how does that work?
And for what it’s worth I feel for people who have minor kids and are unsure of what to do. I know it’s not easy.
How does WHAT work?
If a person is 17 and their college is mandating it to attend, do they still need a parent to consent to it? I’ll have to look it up.
I’m not sure why you’re getting all worked up here. New territory for everyone, it’s a crazy situation.
Well if the parent has to be with them to get it, I would assume so.
Sorry if you took offense.
I do feel for parents. I’m undecided how I feel about the under 12 age group at this moment for vaccines.
I feel for all parents, no matter if they have small children or adult children. Not everyone, no matter their age is comfortable with it and many are forced. Yes, I say forced as many adults don't want to have to go and find a new job. Especially if they are established there. They are considered "adults" at 18 which is crazy lol
I remember going to the doctor when I was in college. I needed a shot for something. I can't recall what. I asked the nurse if she could get my mom from the waiting room so she could hold my hand while I got the shot. The nurse came back and told me my mom said to grow up!
Awww. I had to have a molar and wisdom tooth pulled at like 32 and my mom still came with me. I wanted her there over DH. You're never too old to need your mom

Re: If you don't want to vaccinate your kids...
We moved out of New York and we are in Florida now. I hope to never see a mandate for the vaccine for kids. NY was already on a certain path, it’s just been magnified the last year and a half. We felt the state takes takes takes out of the pockets of the middle/ upper middle class, and what are we going to have left? Started to feel like a dictatorship and what does the average citizen get out of it ? Nothing, no quality of life. I do think NY will mandate but there are so many families leaving, NY needs to slow its roll

While at the current time I would prefer not to vaccinate my children for COVID, if it was necessary for them to attend school I would vaccinate.
I think its a jump and I am not overly concerned that it will be mandated. Especially as we are now seeing that the vaccine effectiveness is not what they originally projected.
Agreed. I am not convinced they will mandate the vaccine for children any time soon. There would be an exorbitant amount of push back.
I watch main stream TV and any "medical expert" I have seen on TV has been very hesitant to promote the vax for kids. All I have heard them say is more data needs to be collected.
In the event they mandate it this year, I would have to consider a home schooling cooperative/pod or whatever they are called. I literally can not believe I just wrote that but I just am not comfortable with the idea of vaccinating them with this yet.
The thing that frightens me is that the governor mentioned in an article (in MSM) finding a way to mandate that school kids get vaccinated to protect the kids. I do hope there is enough pushback as well as many who are vaccinated, as well as those who are unvaccinated, feel uncomfortable vaccinating their children at this point.
Protect the kids. Please. I'm trying to protect my child by NOT giving her this vaccine. Who the fuk is she to tell me how to protect MY kid? My anger as a parent is just boiling over right now.
How you feel is how anitvaxers felt when they were forced to either vaccinate or remove their child from school.
I see both sides of mandating and not mandating vaccines for school. But how are some ok with some vaccines being mandated and others not??!! I see all the outrage now but where were all these parents when other vaccines were mandated!
Not calling you specifically out I just find it ironic and wonder how many realize that vaccines are required as is and how many parents were outraged just like people Are outraged now.
It was disheartening fighting back then without the help of other parents, especially considering this was something that would end up affecting ALL of us. I think that we all have something in common though...medical freedom, in other words a parent being able to do what’s best for his/her own child/children and their health, something not possible with mandates. Whether u're a provaxer, antivaxer, believes in some vaccines but not others, prefers a delayed vaccine schedule...we should all recognize that medical freedom is one of the most important things to preserve. We’ve been losing little bits of it at a time and if we parents (every parent because this is something that can and will affect us all) don’t fight for it, it’ll all be gone and there’s not a thing we’ll be able to do.

there are balls rolling in the NYS senate to pass this mandate.
All of the parents who are against the vaccination becoming mandatory absolutely need to take the time to write their local leaders. I always say how it's ridiculous that people get their panties in a bunch over the presidential election and nobody gives a hoot about our local elections when those are the people whose actions actually really can effect our day-to-day. It's imperative that we make our voices heard and, if they are falling on deaf ears, we make changes come election time.
ITA!
I have reached out to my State Assemblyman and will be reaching out to my State Senator shortly.
If I don't hear back, I will drop a handwritten note in his mailbox when I am picking my son up from school next week.
This is really good. Don’t limit urself with 1 letter, keep sending multiple times. Reach out to other legislators even if they’re not from ur district, def the ones that will most likely vote no, then those that will most likely vote yes, and then the sponsors of those bills (Hoylman and Dinowitz), these 2 will not change their minds at all but at least they’ll be aware that there’s a lot of opposition.

That's all well and good but as a parent, my daughter is my main concern. I'm still not willing to give her this vaccine, and all the "experts " and their talking points mean nothing to me.
I have no comment on what is right or wrong, and I understand your position. Just simply stated what has happened in the past. In one of the articles it mentions that trials for children are not done and won’t be done by the end of 2021 at the earliest. It sounds like it won’t be granted full approval until at least 2022. I think you’ll be fine this school year.
That's what I'm banking on. But my concern is DD is turning 12 in June... which means I she will be eligible. I hope they don't start forcing it on the kids who are 12 and up. It's just a bad situation all around sadly
Kids 5+ are supposed to be eligible by the holidays. As soontobemommy posted - there are balls rolling in the NYS senate to pass this mandate.
So on this subject....I just read an article about why the approvals in young children are taking longer. This was one of the reasons:
Unlike in adult trials, in which tens of thousands of people — who are highly susceptible to being infected by COVID — received either a vaccine or a placebo, only a few thousand kids are participating in pediatric trials, and because children are statistically much less likely to contract COVID, there might be too few symptomatic infections to measure efficacy in the same way.
In short, it's difficult to tell if a vaccine is working if the trial participants have a harder time getting the very virus it is intending to test.
So perhaps that means young children don't NEED this vaccine if they are having a hard time studying it due to low transmission in their age group. And it CERTAINLY should not be mandated for them to attend school.

I think that when people mention breakthrough cases is to point out that vaccinated people are getting covid more than what we were led to believe. They said vaccinated people would rarely get sick and their virus load -if any- would be so low that the chances for that person to spread to others would be minimal, pretty much nonexistent. Well...none of that seems to be the case.

Yes..stop it stop it right now
Seriously how did we get here though. I'm writing my senators and anyone who would listen. I vote in all local elections, always have and I want representation especially for this.
The only way we will stop this s if we push back. I have two friends in NYC pushing back now against the mandates at their job. They're both super scared to lose their job but more scared of being subjected to taking this vaccine. There is power in numbers and we are not alone.

Exactly. My friends dad fully vaxxed immune compromised just died. They are blaming it on COVID even though he was fully vaxxed so this shot is not nearly as effective or impressive as they said it would be. At this point you have to be blind not to see it...

Not being snarky at all as someone who is seriously considering fleeing down south do you think that there is enough resistance in FL to turn it to NY? I'm so scared of leaving here to end up in another state that eventually ends up like NY...

Ding ding ding.
For typically healthy people who wouldn’t end up hospitalized or dead if they contracted Covid, they (as well as myself) assumed that if you were vaccinated you wouldn’t be too sick and able to spread as easily.
Well they got sick and got it from another vaccinated person and they all spread it to each other.
I’m so happy to hear that so many fields are choosing to only test the unvaccinated weekly. Or simply fire those that aren’t unvaccinated.
What is everyone going to do when ‘fully vaccinated’ means 3 shots? Or getting a booster every 6-8 months or you’re fired?? Wake up!!!!!!!!!

If you don't want to vaccinate your kids...
Hochul said in her announcement about teachers needing to be vaccinated or tested that children deserve to be safe and protected in schools and she’s doing everything in her power to do that.
I’m glad she gave a testing option but the way things are going why doesn’t everyone need to be tested? Does she not want to expose these breakthrough cases?

So here's another interesting tidbit on this nonsense... My friend is a teacher and was told by her administrator that if you are vaccinated and come in contact with a positive case you do NOT have to quarantine. Only the unvaccinated teachers do. AND you have to use your sick and personal time to do so. So she was saying if she gets exposed twice that's pretty much all her sick time and personal time gone for the year. So while they are giving them an option to test instead of vaccinate, they really are making not getting vaccinated almost impossible. The irony is, we all know that the vaccinated can get and spread it. Yet they don't have to quarantine after an exposure at school? How is that "protecting the children"??? I wonder if our unelected governor can answer that?

If you don't want to vaccinate your kids...
We are living in bizzaro world. Everyone went to school and yes many went to work without the vaccine and they are still here. Why the mandates? We are almost 2 years in. Fix the vaccine. Stop banking on something that doesn’t work as well as originally thought. This is an endemic. Fix the vaccine then maybe I will consider getting it . Kids still not sure, thinking once puberty is in full swing or fully developed

Our district has unlimited sick so I don't know if that will be an issue (that and most staff I know of did get vaccinated last year as they were quarantining whole classes at the time and if they were vaccinated they could stop quarantining)

Uhhh yeah I’m not giving my kids a so-called vaccine that doesn’t even work. People realize this is t a vaccine right?!?!
Are they hospitalized? In ICU? On a vent? Dead?
I think that when people mention breakthrough cases is to point out that vaccinated people are getting covid more than what we were led to believe. They said vaccinated people would rarely get sick and their virus load -if any- would be so low that the chances for that person to spread to others would be minimal, pretty much nonexistent. Well...none of that seems to be the case.
I never was led to believe that was the case. I always understood that the vaccine would help prevent you from getting a severe case, which it does. I’ve gotten the flu years that I’ve had a flu shot, but I was back up and about in 2 days vs. 10 days.
Hospitals in the south are releasing data. Over 90% hospitalized are unvaccinated. Over 95% in ICU are unvaccinated. Yet people still interpret this as the “vaccine not working”.

Unvaccinated means before the 2 weeks after your 2nd shot. They can say unvaccinated while these people could have 1 or 2 shots.

This is the same for my school as well.
Does nobody see the irony in this? Does nobody see this makes no logical sense? Then we wonder why people are skeptical of this.
Our district has unlimited sick so I don't know if that will be an issue (that and most staff I know of did get vaccinated last year as they were quarantining whole classes at the time and if they were vaccinated they could stop quarantining)
Yes my friend's district does not have unlimited sick so she was concerned with running out of time and having to be unpaid. She ended up getting vaccinated because she felt she had no choice and has been a nervous wreck about it. I feel badly that she was kind of forced- without being "forced"

Word for word.
