If you had a Crash C-Section
or some type of emergency c due to your baby loosing oxygen, HR dropping, etc can you please let me know if your LO has any type of small issues.
I know it's a weird question and not trying to start drama or anything. Just figuring things out. My DS1 was a crash C. His HR dropped and dramatically and they had to get him out ASAP. Was totally fine in the hospital after. No need to go to the NICU or anything. and came home after 4 days.
He's 2 now (going to be 3 in May) and he's a great boy, but he does have some speech delays and sensory issues.
WHen talking with other mothers who've had something similiar it turns out their LO also had some sensory issues as well. I was telling my mom and she said her bosses son (who's 6 now) was born the same way and he had no issues. WEll, the other day she told me he does after speeking with her boss's wife (she's friends with). They just never talked about it.
Doesn't happen to all children, but I guess was trying to figure out for myself some things. DS2 is 8 months and was a sched c section. Now he's eating everything and already off most babyfood when DS1 was on babyfood till over 2 yrs old.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
My third child, DD2, was a crash c section. My water broke right after I got to the hospital and it looked like (tmi warning) mud and blood. They got me on the monitors, all was ok for about 30 minutes, then Dds heartbeat just... went away and I started bleeding. They knocked me out, and cut her out. My scar is grotesque. She was ok, but I had a massive infection in the placenta which caused all the drama.
Dd is speech delayed and her speech is very garbled, for lack of a better word. She is sick ALL the time. If there is anything going around she will get it, 10 times more violently than anyone else. She does a lot of odd self soothing behaviors, like sucking her fingers, pulling her hair, pinching herself or me in a rhythmic way. She is almost 3.
Based on my personal experience, I would say that there is definitely something to your theory!

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
Interesting. I had an unplanned section b/c DS's HR started dropping after 29 hours of labor. He's only 10 months old so I haven't noticed too many issues yet. Though we are just starting table food and I'm finding he won't touch anything except puffs. He will eat things like banana pieces off a spoon though. I figured that was normal in that they're not used to the texture yet, but I guess we'll see how it plays out.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
I had a Csection cause DS just wouldn't come out...his hand was across his head so it was keeping him from coming out.
He is only 3 months so I can't tell you how he is about speech and stuff but he hasn't even had the sniffles. Both DH and I were very sick when he was 6mons. I had a bad sinus infection and DH had the stomach bug and he didn't get either. And is slightly ahead on soem milestones.

Sorry, I don't mean to scare you either or put that in people's minds if they did have a crash c. Doesn't necessarly mean there will be any issues. I guess I'm just trying to figure out answers for myself. Also, don't try and assume everytime your DS does something a little off or different. Doesn't mean anything. If you pick apart at everything he does it'll make you crazy. Plus, he's still so young. Some kids don't eat till their 1 and then a week later eating a steak! DS2 had a very calm and easy birth. Eating everything, but JUST started sitting on his own and he's 8.5 months old! I was getting nervous, but totally normal. I have to learn to stop comparing. They'll do it at their own pace

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
I had to 2 crash c-sections:
My oldest was full-term and has no physical, social, speech, sensory, and/or eating issues.
The twins were born 10 weeks early (2 pounds each) and they too are clear of any physical, social, sensory, or eating issues. They were in the NICU for 6 weeks.
One of the twins had speech therapy for 2 months (age 22 months - 24 months) for an extremely minor issue through state of NJ. The issue was cleared up rather quickly and the state of NJ (in conjunction and with approval of my family, and pediatrician) terminated the therapy.
I truly think that their lack of issues are miracles. I feel badly for those children who struggle. Perhaps there is some connection to birth trauma.
I hope you find some answers. I admire your determination.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
I had a crash c/s with Loey. I pushed for hours then needed a c/s and had to be completely put under when I was given too much through my epidural and became numb from my neck down...
He is 2 now and so far, so good! No problems or delays in any areas.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
i had a somewhat crash c-section at 33w due to pre-e and HELLP and transverse breech presentation. i was all ready to be induced until we found out she was breech. had my csection (under general because my labs were so bad due to HELLP at that point) within an hour of finding out she was breech.
my DD is only 10m but so far she seems fine, delayed only to the extent of her prematurity (ex. she does everything an 8m old should do). i personally feel that her social skills are advanced for her age (she has three words although she can't always use them appropriately, she def knows who DADA and MAMA and BABA are). however i feel she is a tad behind in motor skills (doesn't crawl yet, seems to have about the same movement as her 6m old cousin). i know all babies are different though so i dont know if it has to do with her crazy birth or just that's how she develops. our PED and the developmental PED that we see (due to her being a preemie) all say that she's right where she should be.
however, this is ALWAYS in the back of my mind and has been since the moment i knew she would be a preemie.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
Thanks all for the responses. Really trying to figure if the baby had some loss of oxygen or their HR dropped. Just to see if that had any effect. Glad to also hear that there are crash c cases that the child had no issues.
I do think DS has his delays due to the fact that he was born. His birth was very scary and I even remember the OB telling me after we caused him some grays. DS is perfectly happy and healthy, but I knew something was up when he was around 5 - 6 months old and would scream when we first tried cereal with him. Wasn't just a short time either. It went on for a while and he'd sometimes gag or throw up. With EI with his Speech and OT teacher he's come a long way. Talking so much more. Food doesn't do it for him so he may always be picky.
thanks again

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
I had an emergency c because DDs heartrate was erratic and she was literally stuck. I pushed for an hour and as soon as I would stop pushing her head would pop back up inside me She is only 4m 3w but seems to be fine. The ped is always telling me that she is doing great and is ahead with her milestones. I think she could do better with her rolling (she loves to be on her back so will roll from tummy to back but never the other way). I also had meconium when they broke my water so I am very mindful of DDs progression.
It sounds like you are doing a great job with your son and that he's getting the best of therapy.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
I had an emergency CS due to me not progressing & his heart rate dropping rapidly. There have been no delays, if anything his speech is well advanced compared to the others in his class at daycare. Actually, he did walk a little later than most, but still well within the "range".

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
I had an emergency csection with my twins at 30 weeks. Never had an official reason for the preterm labor.....I had been on bedrst for the 4 weeks prior because of a shortened cervix. I was contracting all day but I guess bc I was sill very early the naive me didnt think it could actually be real contractions and real labor. By the time I realized something wasn't right and went to the hospital to get checked out, the nurse barely put her fingers in and she quickly told another nurse, "I feel fetal parts.", meaning my sons foot was pretty much right there. From that point it was complete chaos, at least for me. They were out within 20 minutes.
They have not had any issues what so ever except for the fact that their still age adjusted. So while they might be slightly behind for a "normal" 18 month old, they are right on track for 15-16 month old, which is there adjusted age. Verbally they don't have many real words at all. "Uh-oh" and "ball" are the only words they use in correct context. But they both make an effort to repeat back everything we say to them. Usually they will only get the first or last syllable correct. But I have heard of 20 month olds that were full term who only had a handful of words for the longest time and then almost overnight they were talking. So Im not concerned yet.
Because they were born so early they were entitled to have a nurse come every six months and observe them and make sure they are acheiving their age adjusted milestones and so far there has never been any concerns.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
i think there is a correlation with the apgar score--my DS was born not breathing (natural birth) with an initial score of 3. he is speech delayed.
BTW, the issues only became apparent at 12-18 months, for those with young infants, not to scare you, but speech delays are often not apparent until a year+, and there is no correlation to earlier milestones, health, etc.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
i had a crash c-section for my DD and she is 4.5 with little or no issues etc. she was however a nightmare of an infant but in all seriousness she was colic and gassy and all of that and i used to blame the drugs and the c-section which i know it crazy. my DS was a planned CS and at almost 3 he hasn't anything really except a bad milk allergy. obviously not c-section related though.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
My dd stopped tolerating my contractions after 22 hrs of labor and her hr kept dropping so I had an emergency csec. She is 19 months now so far the only issue as has had is chronic ear infections since 5 months. She had tubes put in 2 months ago and is still getting infections. She does have some hearing loss due to the infections but she does speak she has over 30 words and understands everything we say. For the most part I think she is on target.

Re: If you had a Crash C-Section
My first son was an emergency c-section due to his heart rate dropping and they had to get him out right away, he was born at 36 weeks and they found the umbilical cord around his neck 3 times. He is now 3 years old and has always been really advanced as far as speech and everything.
