Crash c-section vs. scheduled
If you had a crash c/s with your first and a scheduled with your second... was your recovery the same or different?
I had a horrible experience with #1. I pushed for over 3 hours, then was told I needed a c-section. They gave me more meds through my epidural and I ended up having a larger than expected reaction and started to go numb from the shoulders down. I whispered to the nurse that I couldn't breathe and she brushed me off saying that if I could talk, I could breathe. Next thing I knew, I couldn't talk and luckily the doctor looked at me as I mouthed "I can't breathe!!" After that, all I remember is them putting something on my face, saying "don't let the husband in... get this baby out" and then waking up in recovery.
My recovery was really difficult. Whereas most people were feeling good at 2 weeks PP, I still felt horrible I ended up having fluid under my incision site... etc. It was just a really difficult recovery for me and very painful!
I'm wondering what to expect now that I have a scheduled c-section for #s 2 and 3.

Re: Crash c-section vs. scheduled
As long as your doctor knows your reaction to the meds.. it should be a piece of cake compared to your first!!! xoxoxoxo
ETS: it was over in about 1/2 hour total...from start to finish...

Re: Crash c-section vs. scheduled
HUGE, HUGE difference! I had a crash with DS1. Was 2 weeks late (should've never went that long, but that's another story) I guess I was contracting and not feeling it b4 they even gave me anything. His HR dropped dramatically to the point where they were rushing me down to the OR. They first gave me adreneline, but it didn't do anything.
Long story short I was put under and woke up in recovery. I remember shaking and I couldn't breathe. Arms and throat hurt a lot. My arms I guess were tied down and the tubes down my throat gave me a bad sore throat. Didn't even get to hold DS first night. I was white the whole time in the hopsital. Also, I was at LIJ and it was packed so I had a roommate.
For DS2 we moved so I went to a hospital in NJ. All were single rooms so that was a huge plus already Scheduled C was awesome. Went in, nurses were great. Everyone was calm. I got to be up and hear the baby cry for the first time and they put him on me immediatly. From what I hear a Spinal is better than an epi, which is what they give for sched c. I was walking around that night, got to hold DS2 a lot, and bled much less. No throat or arm pain (since I wasn't strapped) Good luck!

Re: Crash c-section vs. scheduled
H, I think your situation was very particular because you had a reaction to the meds. They have that on file now and you shouldn't have the same issue again. Hopefully you can just have a spinal this time and won't have any issues at all.
I had an emergency c/s, but not necessarily a crash one. They gave me a spinal and everything went well, although I had a very painful recovery unfortunately.
I'm trying for a VBAC this time, but there are no guarantees so I might end up with another c/s. I'm kinda dreading it either way lol, but I feel comfortable because I'm using the same doctor and group as last time so they have my file and know what my history is. Are you using the same doctor/practice?
