If you had your NB in the crib from day one (especially EBFing moms)?

With T minus 2 months till baby #2 is here, I'm starting to get anxious about all the little things i don't remember. With DS we were in a 1 bdrm apt so for the first few days he was in the crib since it was in our room anyway, but then his reflux was so bad that we ended up bringing him in our bed and we coslept for 10 months before we did CIO and back in the crib he went.

I am determined not to cosleep with this baby and would like DC to be in the crib in their own room (we've since bought a house) as soon as we get home. If you were successful with this, as an EBFing mom especially, how difficult was it getting up to feed throughout the night from your room to theirs?

DH is a ridiculously loud snorer, I haven't slept through the night since we started dating so I don't want to disrupt DC's sleep by having him in our room with a bassinett as I know DS's was when he coslept with us. Any help/advice would be great!!!! Chat Icon

My DD is 3 months old (my 1st baby) and she has been in her crib from Day 1. There was no way we were co-sleeping because we have a full size bed and it barely fits just DH & I!

I would say it was veryyyy hard the first month when she was eating on demand, sometimes every hour ( I was EBF). Also she had her days and nights confused and so she was up for 2 hours at a time in the middle of the night. I barely slept in the bed with my DH I was in her room 70% of the night.

I would wake up and go to her room, sit in the rocking chair, feed her, rock her... I was so exausted I remember one time I woke up looked at the clock and I had slept for 30 minutes! DD was no longer latched on, she was fully asleep and so was I. LOL fun times.

I would DEFINITELY recommend a rocking chair and a night light if you dont already have one. IMO its essential for a EBF mom and a baby in her own room & crib.

Goodluck, sending you good vibes for baby #2!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DD is not in our room and I have to say I love it. She is in the living room for now but I sleep much better b/c she is not in our room. We don't even use a monitor b/c she is such a loud sleeper - she would keep us up all night!

I was giving her bottles of BM but she never really woke up at night. I really like that our bedroom is "our space" and I dont have to worry about waking her up just by getting into bed. DH also snores terribly and he does wake her up when he falls asleep in the LR!

we had our son in the room for maybe a week tops-he is a loud sleeper then we moved him into his own room - i actually found it easier- the cangign table was in his room - i would change him, nurse him - either in the glider or my computer chair and email - mattering how awake i was then go back to my bed - as he got older sometime i slept in the glider- but i have super comfy glider

also my other favorite thing was my ereader (nook) and a Kandle (the nook attached lights were all sold out on me) -it was enough light to read and see that he latched but not enough to bother him

I would just walk into the room, leave the lights off (there was a night light) and nurse him while sitting in the glider. It wasn't a big deal at all. I love having my kids in their own rooms and keeping my room as my & DH's space only. I only allow the kids to sleep in our bed if they are really sick.

I liked the little newborn napper they had in my pack and play. I used it for a month and slept in the living room, where it was located. After that, he was too big for it (IMO) and went into the crib without issue.

I started off placing him in a crib from day one... which was fine... until I caught myself falling asleep while breast feeding him at night. I have TWO friends who DROPPED their kids because of falling asleep while breastfeeding (keep in mind, our feeds would last at 40 minutes). I started watching TV while feeding.

I did miss my bed though.

Thanks ladies!! So it's not as unreasonable as I thought it might be. I'm definitely going to try my hardest to make it happen this way. I think it will be best for everyone this time around!

and thanks everyone for reminding me I need to get a freakin glider. I also need to order the entire nursery set Chat Icon but I never even remember to factor in a new glider. We still use the one in DS's room for him so I can't take his.

Re: If you had your NB in the crib from day one (especially EBFing moms)?

We did this- DS was in his crib the 2nd night we were home as he was not sleeping well in our room in the moses basket. I have to say it wasn't that bad with the feedings. I would change him during the feeding anyway since I wanted him to be up enough to take a full feeding and not just a snack so either way I would have had to get out of bed. I just nursed him in the glider and relaxed.

However I did not feed on demand or comfort nurse in the beginning. I tried to keep him to an every 2 hours from the start of the last feeding. Of course if he was screaming I would feed him but I tried to soothe him back to sleep first if it was less than 2 hours. He was soon on an every 2-3 hour schedule and wasn't waking in between. He started doing 7 hour stretches at night at aorund 10 weeks and we're still nursing great at 6 and a half months.

Good luck!

DD slept in her bassinet in our room for just one month. I slept so much better once she went into her crib.

Even when she was in our room...I would nurse her sitting on the glider which is in her room. Getting up to feed her was no issue whatsoever.

Wasn't an issue at all. To me, getting up was getting up. It is what it is, and I figured while I was on ML that was kinda my job. I was lucky and DS only woke up 1-2x per night until he was 7 weeks and then STTN after. I think they may actually sleep a little better.

It was never an issue for us. His room is directly across the hall from ours, so when he woke up to eat, I would just walk across the hall, feed him, sit with him in the glider for 25 minutes (the hospital recommended keeping him upright for 25 mins after each feeding), and then I'd put him back in his crib and go back to bed. A couple of times, I dozed off while keeping him upright in my arms, but if I felt tired enough that I thought that might happen, I would arrange the boppy and his position in my arms in such a way that I couldn't drop him (I was super-paranoid!).

Well, not exactly the same, but I will give my advice....DD was in a bassinett in our room until she was 10wks old. I did EBF and ONLY fed her in her room at night. The glider was in there and I would just pick her up and walk to her room (right across the hall) and feed her in there. Once we moved her to her crib at 10wks, I did the same - fed her in her room. I never fed her in bed in the middle of the night for fear that I would fall asleep. Not sure if you have a glider - but if you do, this could work for you too!!!
