If you have central air, please help me settle an argument!

My husband and I are disagreeing about the temperature we should have our central air set to. We are off by quite a few degrees!!!

I am sweating every night, and he thinks I'm crazy. Soo...what temp do you set your CAC to? I'm thinking maybe I am crazy?!

We leave it set to 70 all day and then at 12:30am we have it programmed to go to 68. Then at 9:00am it goes back to 70. It works for us. I like it colder while I sleep.

75?! It's cooler without the CAC on!
I feel your pain though, DH wants to keep it at 72, I'm ok with 72 in the day, but I like it at at least 70 at night. I win though because I'm 9 months pg and need to sleep!

Re: If you have central air, please help me settle an argument!

we don't have CAC but my parents do and 70 sounds FREEZING to me!!

they usually have it set for 76 (one zone) and it's always perfectly comfortable there. if one room gets too hot they turn on a ceiling fan.

we have one AC unit in a studio apt. and it's set for 74 all day long - 73 or 72 if it gets hot.

sorry but i have to side with your DH on this one Chat Icon even my DH, who is always hot, thinks that 68/70 is too cold - that is what his parents have their AC set too.

Every house is different. Some keep cooler than others due to the insulation and construction. I don't think it is a fair fight to ask others what they keep their house at.

However, if you are really hot, then I don't see the argument? Does he think you are lying? Chat Icon Dude your hot, turn it up!

Welcome to my world. Ours is set at 74-75. 70 would never happen in my house.

We also have it set at 75. We keep a fan on just to move some air around and I think it's perfectly fine. Sure, I'd rather have it on 60, but considering how high the power bill is already, I don't need to live in a meat locker.

Right - it depends on the house!

We just had ours installed on tuesday - so we have been playing with the temps - our house is good at 71/72 during the day and 69/70 at night.

Our CAC is only 3 years old, so I'm guessing it's still pretty efficient.

74 overnight, and that's pretty cool in the house! DH says its too cold Chat Icon

76-78 during the day, and I find it ok and I am home all day.

wow, I am glad to see these reactions. Mine is set between 71 and 73 depending on the time of day. I would die if it were set on 68 Chat Icon

Re: If you have central air, please help me settle an argument!

this is my opinion on temperature.

if youre cold, you can add blankets, wear heavier clothing, etc. but if you're hot, the most you can do is strip down naked, and then thats it!

so to me..the colder temperature always wins. it's only fair! Chat Icon

Between 74 and 75 and it gets freezing! I would be miserable in a house with the AC set below 70.

Re: If you have central air, please help me settle an argument!

72-75 depending on the temp outside and the time of day.....we only go to the 67 if we have a larger amount of company over. But at 72-75 is the usual. When we arent home it is at 75. But I think my house is perfect.

70 all day and night. But, it really depends on how big the house is, how many zones, etc..

Re: If you have central air, please help me settle an argument!

I have an extremely hot house and i am ALWAYS hot, i have thyroid disease etc.. but even before i was diagnosed i was always hot, even as a kid. So i like it set at 70 during the day and at night i raise it to 74. I tend to get colder while im sleeping so 74 is fine for me. Some days it gets so hot out that my CAC temp wont even reach that temp and it only makes it to 73 or so. My DH would be fine with not turining it on at all since it uses so much electricity! Then i say what was the point in having it iinstalled?

70-71 during the day and 68 at night.

If you are sweating, it's obviously too hot and you need to lower the temperature.

We lower it down to 68-69 at night.

Since I'm preggo I actually made DH buy me an air conditioner for our bedroom because the CAC was just not cutting it for me. Tell your DH it could be worse - he could be married to me! Chat Icon My husband says he wakes up with icicles hanging from his nose now! Chat Icon
