Re: If you have health insurance through an employer, what do you pay monthly
We WERE paying $1300 a month through DH's employer for medical only, no dental or vision.
Needless to say, we opted out this time and went through the NYS Health Exchange. That is turning into a nightmare, we should have just kept paying that much through the employer.

$1149. This includes a ridiculously high deductible. And it's post tax.

$366 per month just for me - medical only.
To add DD when she's born, it will increase to $620 per month - medical only.
If DH and DD were added to mine, it would increase to $965 per month - medical only.
DH is on his employer's insurance and pays under $100 per month for his medical and dental for both of us.
If DD is added to his plan when she's born he would end up paying $640 per month for their medical and dental for me and DH.
Neither of our employers offer vision.

We're on DH's employer's medical plan and it cost us zero though it's $90/paycheck for prescription plan. :P
We opted for a family prescription plan through Walgreens for $35/year. Best $35 we spent!

$300 a month now for 3 of us but if heaven forbid one of us is hospitalized, we are looking at an insanely huge bill. I am not even TTC yet and I have already started saving for the birth of our 2nd child!
Last year I was paying just over $800 a month but was fully covered for everything (except copays).

$160/month for a family plan that includes medical, dental and vision. DH also has additional coverage for him and DS that's $120/month (when DS was born we had separate coverage and my employer wasn't offering a family plan at the time). However, both are deductible plans, one has co-insurance, one even has an RX deductible.
Kimchee, I'm going to look into that Walgreens plan!

$70/mo pre tax for my husband and me, for medical and dental. It's the "cheaper" plan with a higher copay ($50 for doctor visits, higher copay on meds, etc). The dental coverage isn't great. For vision, we just have reimbursement for certain things up to a certain amount (and it doesn't make sense - like you can get an eye doctor visit and contacts OR glasses every year - but they don't consider that someone who wears contacts needs a pair of glasses, too).

Re: If you have health insurance through an employer, what do you pay monthly
$7300 a year for family of 3 with dental and vision and a $250 deductible. If we wanted a HD plan it would be substantially less

Contact lenses are a luxury. You don't NEED contact lenses, I guess unless you don't have ears or a nose to put glasses on. So they're not going to pay for both glasses AND contacts.

Re: If you have health insurance through an employer, what do you pay monthly
I just added it up and it's $4474.34 a year for all of this under family.
It used to be $357 a WEEK at my old job so I am very pleased.
Health insurance is a hot button topic for me because I feel that it is a need for everyone.
At the very least, I think everyone should be entitled to something like Medicaid that may not get you to the best doctors, but also shouldn't cost an arm and a leg or have high deductibles.
Believe it or not, it's people with a long solid work history who end up needing health insurance the most----not people who are necessarily trying to get over on the system.
Often these people end up on Medicaid anyway.
Lastly, Medicaid services are still pretty good in general too. All of the places I have worked as a social worker or that my clients have gotten treatment, have billed Medicaid for services and I think the clients were treated pretty well.

We are extremely lucky, we pay $10 a month for dental for me and DH and get vision and medical for our family of three for nothing through my job. Our medical plan does have an extremely high deductible though.
