Posted by sameinitials (and it doesn't make sense - like you can get an eye doctor visit and contacts OR glasses every year - but they don't consider that someone who wears contacts needs a pair of glasses, too).
Contact lenses are a luxury. You don't NEED contact lenses, I guess unless you don't have ears or a nose to put glasses on. So they're not going to pay for both glasses AND contacts.
I guess, but I don't see it like that... personally I see much better with my contacts than my glasses and have better depth perception (even though the rx on my glasses is correct). My eyesight is also really bad, so I don't have peripheral vision when I wear my glasses, so I hate driving while wearing them. So, for me contacts are more of a necessity than a luxury.

we also pay nothing. feeling actually a bit naive as I thought that was the situation with all workplaces that offer health ins. this thread has been very educational as I was a bit shocked going over what ppl pay.

Re: If you have health insurance through an employer, what do you pay monthly
Posted by Kitten1929 Kimchee, I'm going to look into that Walgreens plan!
Definitely recommend looking into this. Costco, RiteAids and other pharmacies have their own plan too but I find the savings from the Walgreens plan so much better. Duane Reade is part of Walgreens so you can join there too.
Both DH and I have a prescription plan from our employers but the plan's costs are significantly more expensive than what we're paying at Walgreens.
My DH is on regular medication and we've saved a few hundred just filling out the first month's prescription. Makes you wonder what's the real margin for some medications. :P

Unfortunately, no.
I constantly have people asking me if I can help them get into the system I work for because of the benefits alone.
I always encourage people to look at hospitals, non-profits and places with unions. Sometimes salary is lower but the benefits tend to make up for it. The working environment too also may be more pleasurable to work for.
I am actually bringing home a little bit more even though I was making a higher salary at my last F/T job because of all the $$$ I was paying towards health insurance there.

Family of 4, we pay about $350 per month for medical, and an extra $200 or so for vision and dental. Comes directly out of the paycheck.

Free would be nice but I would take these premiums in a second.

last I looked... around $300 every 2 weeks... so $600 + a month...
plus a large deductible, like 6,000 or 8,000.
eta- it is a large employer too

We pay nothing out of pocket for any insurance but we do pay a percentage of doctors visits up to a certain amount. Up until this year we paid nothing at all ever, not even for prescriptions. DH works for a technology company.

Re: If you have health insurance through an employer, what do you pay monthly
I currently pay around $565/month for family of 3 for all three, but I just resigned and will start a new job where it is only $170 or $62/month (depending on which plan I choose). I was in shock when I saw the new job's medical options!!! So cheap!
