If you have natural gas or a wood pellet stove, I have some q's.
DH and I are tired of the expense of oil. We are considering natural gas or a pellet stove. I have a few questions if you know anything about either.
Natural gas- mainly, we are interested in the cost of hookup (it's already in the neighborhood) and ongoing cost.
Pellet stove- we are leaning towards this option as it seems more environmentally friendly than gas. But we want to know if it'll heat our whole home. If you have it, is it connected to the ductwork? How is the heat distributed? My neighbor has one and loves it but has a one-story ranch. We have a front-to-back split with 3 levels and we want to make sure it does the whole house.
TIA.

I dont know the cost to hookup. They had it already when we bought. My highest bill this winter was like $300-350. Summertime, maybe $150 and thats high. No issues.

We have a pellet stove we use in addition to our regular oil heat. When the pellet stove is on we can leave our heat at 62 and our house is still toasty. We use about 50% less oil since having it about 5 years. We have a two story house that is pretty large. We don't have natural gas in our area so that isnt an option for us.

Another thing you might want to think about is what happens if the electric goes out? During Sandy (we have an insert with a blower) we barely felt it. If I am not mistaken the pellet needs electric to operate.

One of the models I looked at came with a battery pack, which I assume would take over in a power outage. This also makes it a better option than natural gas, because we'd need a new furnace which would also run on electric.
