if you measured ahead

Did you wind up delivering before your due date? I just went for my 3-d scan and was told that Luca was measuring about 5 days ahead of schedule. Is that a good indicator that I'll go a little early?

Re: if you measured ahead

I measured ahead but had GD so she was just a big baby. I had a c/s 3 days before her due date because of her size.

ETA my doctor always said that even though we measured ahead, we'd still go by the measurements on the first sono since they are the most accurate -- being that some people just have big babies.

Don't scare me like that. Chat Icon I'm 32 weeks and DS is measuring about 4 pounds. I don't know why, but I can't see myself having a big baby. I guess since DH and I are both kind fo small and were both really small babies- I was just over 6 pounds, and DH is a twin so he was only 4 pounds.

Re: if you measured ahead

No, it doesn't necessarily! Only if you're not sure when you conceived. With Caiden he was measuring 2 weeks bigger and I went into labor 5 days before DD. This baby is measuring 3 weeks bigger and I'm now 36 weeks and I don't think he's coming a lot earlier. I also know exactly when I ovulated so I know my dates aren't off.

Re: if you measured ahead

I just did a little search to see how big Emily was at that point and at 34 weeks she was 6lbs 11 oz!!!!! And she grew steadily from there!!!!

Remember at around 38 weeks it usually slows down a bit. It's more about lung development at that point then weight gain.the link

Re: if you measured ahead

I'll be getting measured again next week for my actual growth sono. My friend did the 3-d scan, so she's the one who said he's about 4 pounds.

Re: if you measured ahead

I measured ahead - 2-3 weeks thru my entire pregnancy.

Emma was born 2 weeks early at 8lbs 6oz. My doctor told me that just because I was measuring ahead didn't mean that I would deliver early or that DD would be a big baby - that it could have been that I had a lot of fluid, a large uterus, or just carried big.

Re: if you measured ahead

I dont' mean to take your thread, Nicole, but this is something I don't get either. When people ask when I'm due, I just say "beginning of November." this is what happened to me:

*According to my LMP, I would now be 29.5 weeks.
*According to my original due date, given to me at around 6 weeks, I would now be 28 weeks.
*According to my Level II, I would now be 30 weeks.
*According to my last OB appointment, I would be 29 weeks.

So, when I went at what I thought was 26 weeks (according to original date given by OB), I was measuring one week ahead. So, at that point he said, "OK so you are now 27 weeks" (when I would have been 26 weeks). But, he didn't get me a new due date. He said that all of the sonos are so close that I can go at any time in the beginning of November. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

At 31 weeks, I measured 33 weeks and DS was 4.5 pounds AND he was very late.

If you add the .5 pound a week growth - that puts you at 8 pounds - pretty normal.Chat Icon

Re: if you measured ahead

I always measured 2-3 weeks ahead and ended up being late! My daughter was almost 9 pounds.

Re: if you measured ahead

Ryan measured ahead by about 10 days the entire time..The DR kept telling me it meant nothing and that Ryan just might be on the bigger side...

Sure enough at the end of my preg, I had to have an amnio (for other reasons) and the amnio proved that I was in fact 10 days futher along...

Ryan was born @ 37weeks 3 days @ 7 lbs 12 oz....(which IMO was big for a baby almost 3 weeks early)

Re: if you measured ahead

I measured ahead of schedule always and went 3 days late with my 1st, 4 days early with my 2nd and 16 days early with my 3rd, I really don't think the doc knoww hat they are talking about in regard to measurment, size of baby, earlier due date, it is all a guesstimate. Every baby is different genetically so they can only base it on their past experience. Sorry, you will have that baby in your arms befure you know it, so just enjoyu this pregnancyChat Icon

Re: if you measured ahead

I had an official growth sono @33wks and was measuring 35. I didn't believe that so I had another done at work (work in L&D) at 35wks and was measuring right on schedule. I'll find out which was more accurate soon I hope. Chat Icon

Re: if you measured ahead

I don't think it's s good indicator. A sonogram is no wher enear 100% accurate for weight.

DD was measuring a week ahead throughout my pregnancy. They were concerned that she was going to be a big baby. The sent me for an extra sono at 38 weeks. The results from that sono showed she "caught up" and was no longer measuring ahead. I went into labor the next week.
