I would take me, DH, the dogs, my bird, any photo albums i can grab...thank god they are all in one spot, and our little portable file cabinet, it's tiny, one of those plastic ones, with all of our important papers.

I actually did I have to leave my apartment on a moment's notice in the middle of the night almost exactly 3 years ago.
I took only my wedding rings, glasses, cell phone keys & DH. ( Oh, and maybe my purse. I don't remember.)
I barely managed to put shoes on & the cop evacuating us had to tell me that I might want to bring a jacket.
(It was a much colder October that year).
Only one person I saw had a box of documents & 1 couuple were so concerned over their 7 week old baby, that they forgot their cat. ( he was fine though.)

we'd grab the safe with all of our documents, the laptop, my fave bags, DH would most definitely grab his Xbox 360, PSP, and games, and our wedding albums and pics.

Unfortunately, I was in this situation about 6 years ago.
When it's an immediate emergency, nothing else matters except you and your pets (f you have any).
Geting out safely and swiftly was the only thing on our minds.
Would we have liked to save the pictures? Absolutely. Does it make me sad to even think about now? You bet.
It sucks that I have nothing from my childhood /teenage years left, but I am alive, along with everyne that was there that night.
But - to anwer the post - in a perfect world, I'd grab the deed to the house and my wedding album

I too had to leave my house for a fire once.
Let me tell you, even with a couple minutes notice between when we called 911 and they arrived, you don't have the wherewithal to grab anything that isn't living.
But it did make me start scanning ALL my old photos and some old documents into the computer, back them up on Disc and pop them in the fire proof box.
That way I never lose the photos or memorabilia I want to have.

5 minutes is not a lot of time to grab all of those things most are posting about.
In 5 minutes I think you are lucky if you can grab clothes, if you have a baby food for the baby and clothes and then lucky if you have any time left to attend to your pets if you have any.

My husband, My cats, my camera, and my computer. They have all my pictures on it, I don't have anything on hard copy.
Everything else in the house is replaceable.

that woudl take liek 3 min... id say 2 more id gather up some more shoes and clothes

same for us.
we just moved here to San Diego after our wedding in July....and luckily have not been directly affected by the fires, but we have had to think about what we'd take with us!
life is so precious. i'd definitely save the people and pets. material things... as important as they may seem... are often replaceable. (although there are definitely some items of sentimental value that i would miss)

All my important papers are in a locked box. I would probably grab my wedding album, DS baby book, my binder of all of our medical records (including the dogs), then of course grab the baby and the dogs. I always have a packed suitcase (habit from a past life) and I actually have one for DS in case of an emergency, so I'd grab them too.
Guess its a good thing I have a big truck......

4/ Purse on way out the door
5/ Camera with memory cards
All depending how fast we get the dogs together.
I have DS' diaper bag ready to go at any time in case of an emergency.
