If you plan on teaching your baby 2 languages...

did you register for any toys in languages other than English?

I'm on BRU's site and not really seeing many toys with Spanish... just a handful!

we didn't register for any toys in Spanish.

my MIL has books at home and such, so hopefully the baby will use those when the time comes. we will be incorportating spanish words for animals into the decor of the nursery.

I would say that Spanish is the dominant language that Newton will be hearing once born. my MIL will be caring for Newton and speaks in Spanish to all of us. the only englsh the baby will be hearing is when dh and I speak to each other.

we will probably speak to the baby in a mix.

my husband was born in this country but didn't learn english until he started school. which worked out well, since he is fairly masterful in both languages.

i bought todd the talking frog for my nephew, which he loved. he speaks both spanish & english. colors, numbers....

i hope i can teach our child spanish and english at the same time. it would be great and easier i think. i didn't learn spanish until i was older, and its hard for me to communicate to family who does. and i think it's because my sibs & i weren't spoken to in spanish at home, making it harder to learn.

Thanks!

I just thought of it, so I put a few bilngual toys on there.

DH is going to be a SAHD and he'll be speaking to baby in Spanish....

I on the other hand don't speak Spanish (although I do understand a lot!) so I'll speak to the baby in English and hopefully it won't be too confusing!

DH and his family spoke Spanish at home, but he and his 4 brothers usually spoke English to each other... (they all learned at school too).

We have 2 nephews and 1 niece and none of them have been taught Spanish so that's something we definitely wanted to change for our family!

we have this too. all three of our nieces grew up with care givers (my MIL with the first two, and my BIL's mom with my sister's daughter) and none of them are fluent.

they understand, but for the most part, they answer back in english or spanglish Chat Icon

hopefully we will break that cycle. but it's very difficult once tv shows and school rolls around.

this kid better learn quick...hopefully we'll move to Italy when he/she turns soccer player age Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

perhaps you and the meatball can hone your skills together. no time like the present to learn. Chat Icon I make mistakes all the time...luckily my MIL sets me straight. dh just laughs at me Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am a Spanish Teacher so DH and I decided that we will raise our children bi-lingual. I will be the one to speak solely in Spanish and he will be in English. It will be difficult, but in the end, DH will be learning in the process.

There are a bunch of cute toys in the store (BBB and BRU). I haven't seen the toys online, that I saw in the stores.

Have you tried searching with "bilingual" or "Spanish" in your criteria?

Wow, I never thought of that. Try googling it-maybe there are DVDs. I am sure there has to be toys and things in Spanish.

That is so cool that you are doing that Hayley! I wish we could do that but I only know English and Yiddish curse words! Chat Icon

ETA-If you find a site, let me know because I would probably want to start our DC on Hebrew early.
