If you speak another language
..do you want your child to learn it! I 'm bilingual...and the more I think about how the heck did I learn both? Is this a dumb ? But since my DH and I both speak another language I would love for my son to learn!

Re: If you speak another language
I only speak english but my boyfriends parents speak spanish also. I already asked them to teach Rylan from the start. I think it would be great for him to start off learning 2 languages.

Re: If you speak another language
We speak spanish on my side and my husband's side speaks Greek. Since birth we have been speaking to my son in Spanish, Greek and English. He's now 27 mos and speaks and understands all three. We intend to do the same with this baby. They're like sponges when they're babies so it's never too early to start.

Re: If you speak another language
DH and his family all speak Italian so they speak it to my son. It's so cute, he can count in English and Italian now! It's amazing how fast they pick it up. DH's cousin sends him books and toys from Italy too to help him learn. I thought it was important for him to learn another language and since they pick it up so easy now, it was perfect. However, DH's father speaks Croatian but isn't teaching it to my son. We all want him to but for some strange reason, he won't. He'll only speak English and Italian to him.

Re: If you speak another language
Absolutely!!!!!! I am a first generation Greek-American and will be speaking to in both Greek and English. I am actually doing that already and baby isn't even here yet!
I find myself even more blessed because my mom will be watching the baby when I go to work so I know that he or she will be hearing TONS of Greek from yia-yia which is very important to me. That way baby will know all about his background and religion.

Re: If you speak another language
i definitely would love my to pick up both of our families cultures. my parents and i speak italian and my husband and his family speak romanian/yugoslavian.
plus if she learns italian we can keep secrets from my husband!
i just hope she doesn't learn enough romanian and yugoslavian to curse me out when she's mad at me

Re: If you speak another language
we don't speak anything but English but for those that do I think it's a great thing to teach them especially when they are that young. I only wish DH still spoke good Italian, his grandfather was fluent because then he could teach him that but he only knows a handful of words now.

Re: If you speak another language
DS is 17 months and already understands some Italian words/songs. My mother watches him during the day, so he hears it all day long. The same will go for DD

Re: If you speak another language
My husband speaks Cantonese as well as English. He is planning to talk to the baby in Cantonese and I will speak English. That way, the baby will learn both languages from a young age.
