If they weigh around 37lbs? I still give DS these b/c its less medicine and he is TERRIBLE with taking medicine. The ped said two full droppers (.8and .8) plus .4. But, this doesn't seem to be bringing his fever below 101. Is this just b/c he is really sick or does this not sound like enough for his age/weight. TIA!

Also - I've read on here they have chewables - those that use those - how many do they have to chew and do they taste ok? Do your DC's actually eat them? Thanks again!

DS is 2 and 30-something lbs... we give 1.6mL
I saw this chart online... although it says infant tylenol is not recommended for your DC weight you can figure it out to be 3 dropppers of infant or 2.4mg beased on the dose of the children's suspension.

I always find motrin works better for high fevers.

Can you give motrin? My ped says it is more effective for fevers and I have found that to be true. I give DD the children dosages not the infants - but I get a dropper (the ones that come with the nasal bulbs) and give her the meds that way - she hated taking meds and will take it that way.

the dose for these meds are:

Tylenol is 15mg per kg
motrin is 10mg per kg.

1 kg = 2.2 pounds.

you can use either infants concentration or childrens, just make sure you look on the back to see how many mg's per ml, and calculate the dose according to the above and your childs weight

you can give motrin to children greater than 6 months, and alternate between that and tylenol for fever/pain. motrin every 6 hours, tylenol every 4 to 6 hours

Thanks everyone. I sent DH for the Children's liquid (they didn't have chewables) but, now i am confused b/c for DS's weight the age is 4-5 and he isn't even 3 yet - does that matter? I'm going to call the ped I think...

He only had motrin once - it was well over a year ago and it REALLY bothered his stomach to the point where he couldn't even sleep. THat was a long time ago now and he is much older and bigger so maybe it is time to try it again. Wasn't the motrin recalled as well? Do they sell generic motrin?

THanks again.

1. yes motrin was recalled, the generic is ibuprofen, so if you get store brand, that's fine.
2. pediatric medications are weight based, not age based. so if you calculate you childs weight into kilograms: 1kg is equivalent to 2.2 pounds, then you can give motrin/ibuprofen 10mg/kg. or for tylenol it's 15mg/kg. If you want me to convert it for you, FM me.
3. tylenol was also recalled, again you can use storebrand infant or childrens prep, and it's acetomenaphen.
if you need help, fm me :O)

one more thing: motrin/ibuprofen can irritate the stomach, whether you are a child, or an adult. It's best to give with food if possible, even if it's an hour after a meal, that's better than taking it on an empty stomach. I'm not saying that it can't be taken on an empty stomach though. it's just that some people have sensitive bellies.
