If you were induced and needed a c-section, were you dilated/effaced at all when you got induced?

If you were induced and needed a c-section, were you dilated/effaced at all when you got induced?

I'm scheduled for an induction next week at 39 weeks. At 38 weeks, I am 2cm dilated, 50% effaced and I think I lost/am losing my mucous plug. My obgyn said it is highly unlikely that I would get a c-section since I am progressing on my own and I had a previous successful vaginal delivery with DS#1.

Just wondering if the moms who needed a c-section after induction were dilated/effaced.

Why did you need the c-section?

I had absolutely no progress at 41 weeks therefore got induced (should have waited) started pitocin in the am, broke my water in late morning (should have waited) by midnight no change, 2cm had c section (should have waited). In other words.. I was not happy with my scenario..

I was 1cm and 50% effaced before I was induced. Cervadil didn't change it, Pitocin didn't change it (except for slightly more effacement, depending on which OB you spoke to). When they broke my water nothing changed and then I was on the clock. No progress, so I wound up with a C.

ETA: I am still not certain if DS being sunny side up played a part in it.

How far along were you when you got induced?

I went into labor with DS#1 at 39 weeks. I'm having second thoughts about the scheduled induction.

With DD I wass induced at 38 weeks (because of high BP). I was 90% effaced and 2cm dilated - I did not need cervadil. I ended up with a c-section but that was after pushing for a while and realizing that DD was stuck (basically I dilated fully and that wasn't the problem).

I was induced at 40 weeks and I was only a fingertip dialated when they started the cervidil. I only needed one round of cervidil, they started pitocin 12 hours later. I made it all the way to ten which I never thought I would because all the women in my family never do and always need a c-section. I pushed a few times but every time I pushed, DS heart rate dropped so they did an emergency c-section.

I was barely 1 cm when I was induced (3 rounds of cervadil, with little progress) and ended up with a c/s but bc DSs HR was dropping. Im assuming they would have continued with the cervadil if his hadnt happened

Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was induced at 41 weeks. I wasn't dilated at all when I went in. I know I was effaced. I'm pretty sure I was 50% effaced. I was given cervadil at night and then pitocin in the morning. I got to 5cm and I never progressed any further so I wound up with a c section. DD never dropped either. When my doc opened me up she said that DD would have never fit through my pelvis and that is why she never dropped.

They started the Cervadil on the night of 39w5d and the pitocin on 39w6d. My DD was 9/11 and DH did not want me induced on that day.

My water broke and after that nothing else happened.
I did 12 hours of cervadil, then pitocin and after 30 hours only got to 2cms.
Ended up in a C Section.

A little over 1 cm and 50% effaced 2 days past my due date. After cervadil, pitosin and over 15 hours of labor I never got passed 4 cm and DDs heart rate was erratic. I also developed a fever, which they said was from labor (?) and after my water broke they say she had mercomium (sp?) so they wanted DD O.U.T. asap.

I was induced at 41w and was almost 2cm when I went it. Inserted cervadil at 10pm and broke my water around 7:30am the next morning. I never progressed passed 5 cm and ended up with a C-section at 7:00pm that night.

I was induced at 41 weeks and was 3cm, 50% effaced. I never progressed past 5cm. My water DID break on its own after a night with cervadil, but I'm not sure if it was b/c of the cervadil or it was time.... I wound up with a C about 8hrs after my water broke.

I was induced at 41 weeks.

I was only 1cm dilated that morning and my doctor advised to check into the hospital that night to start the cervidal. I took 1 dose which was 12 hours long and when they checked me again, it did nothing so I told me doctor I wanted a c-section.

I could not sit there any longer and with the chance of the meds not working again, at that point I just wanted the baby out to be honest.

I was 41 weeks and about to be induced....they were about to break my water but the attending and my OB kept feeling the cord, found it to be a cord prolapse so I needed an emergency c-section right away

ETA: I was only 1cm dilated
