If you were invited as a guest for a wedding..
Do you bring a gift or go in 1/2 for $$? I am going with my friend to his brother's wedding and am not sure if I am supposed to offer it.

Re: If you were invited as a guest for a wedding..
I would only offer if I knew the couple getting married. Whenever I brought a guest to a wedding, I never expected them to chip in on the gift.

If I was invited specifically, then yes. But if it is a guest of someone else, then no.

If your name was not specifically on the invite then you are not responsible for any. If it was to John Doe and Jane Smith then i would offer half, but then you wouldnt be considered a guest you were actually invited.
So i guess in a nut shell, no you dont have to offer or give any $$$

I would think if you were asked to be a guest and arent friends with the family then your date should pay for the gift, not you.

Re: If you were invited as a guest for a wedding..
it's weird b/c i would NEVER expect a guest i asked to offer anything and would want to pay their way but then if i was the guest i would feel obligated to offer something. this is why i get walked on again and again throughout life.

not even if my name was on the invite. Just trying to cover all scenarios. The bride could have called my date and asked, for my name but still I wouldn't be expected to conrtibute toward the gift.
in this scenario, if you weren't invited and your friend wants you to come to have a good time with her, then no.

definitely! unless you were BOTH godo friends with the couple, it is the person that is invited that contributes. if you were just "and guest" on the invite and they don't know you, no i wouldn't give a gift.

Re: If you were invited as a guest for a wedding..
I was a guest at a wedding in January for someone I really didnt know. I didnt offer to pay half and wasnt asked to pay half. The guy I went with who is now my BF took care of it.

Seriously, yes, I would offer but it's not terrible if you don't.

If I was going as someone's guest then I would offer, but I don't think you would need to contribute. I would go half if I knew the couple or was friends with them

Re: If you were invited as a guest for a wedding..
I dont think you need to. The only reason I would give is if you are friends with the people getting married and you want to give some extra $ as your own gift to them for him to put in the envelope
