Re: If you work full time
For the most part we cook on average 5 times a week. DH usually starts dinner b/c he is home before me.....
We usually go for Sushi once a week and we may go out and get something to eat if something isn't defrosted in time.......

heck no.... I cook as if we're a family of 8
giant piles of food, so we eat leftovers for a couple days. there's no way I'm making a fresh lunch and a fresh dinner every day on top of taking care of DS and working crazy hours....
we cook dinner about 3X a week
my husband, aka the princess is so disgusted by any food that is over a day old - he throws stuff out on a daily basis. . .he will throw out any product that is within a WEEK of its SELL BY DATE
It drives me bonkers, I grew up thinking the country was still in the depression, we wrapped up half eaten chicken cutlets and less than an ounce of rice and you were going to eat it tomorrow no matter WHAT - throwing out food? HA!
confession: i still say a little prayer every time he throws out food - it makes me feel so guilty!
I am you and your husband rolled into one.
I grew up poor, so we saved and ate leftovers all the time.
now, I HATE them. and refuse to eat anything more than a day old unless I freeze it right after cooking (and will ONLY do this with sauce) after that, I won't let it pass my lips.
my dh on the other hand, will eat anything that won't kill him and hasn't grown mold.
We are good about leftovers. I HATE wasting food. But my problem is estimating how much to make. I make what I think is 4 portions. Then DH eats a little more than his portion and it's all thrown off!

I usually make about 5-6 portions. dh eats about 2, his mom and I eat about one each (give or take), and I give him the rest the next day for lunch.
if he starts eating into his lunch, I warn him to stop after that, it's his loss

Re: If you work full time
I cook Tues, Wed & Thurs...usually in the crock pot. If not one meal is usually something simple - like pasta for DH & sald for myself.
Fridays & Saturdays we eat out with friends.
Sundays family dinner at my moms
Mondays leftovers we take home from Sunday

Re: If you work full time
Thankfully, my husband is home much earlier than I am and cooks dinner most nights. The bonus is that he enjoys cooking so it's a win/win situation.
I'll cook on the weekends sometimes - but it's pretty rare. If we have friends over for dinner I'll cook.

I think I need to start doing this. DH says I don't feed him And when MIL tells DH he looks skinny, he tells her I don't feed him

Re: If you work full time
I cook 5-6 times a week. We usually order Chinese or Pizza once a week. I usually make enough so that we have something to take for lunch the next day. I also feed the kids the meal we had the night before so that we can feed them as soon as we get home and then get them ready for bed.
I recently started planning our meals for the week on Saturdays. Then I'll go buy the stuff that we need. I will start prepping stuff (like dicing/cutting veggies, making sauce or browning ground meat) on Sunday to use through the week. It's been so much easier, I'm less overwhelmed when I get home from work and have to deal with the kids.

Re: If you work full time
When my commute increased to 1.5+ hours each way, DH started cooking since he would get home hours before me.
He would cook about 4 nights out of the week, 1 night my IL's would send over dinner after his visit to them, and then I would cook 1-2 nights.
Now that he's going to be home later than me, we'll go back to me cooking when I get home.
I usually cook at LEAST 4 portions - 1 for me, 2 for DH, and 1 for my lunch the next day.
When I cook rice, I make about double that so that I can just quickly cook some meat and heat up rice the next night.
I've started cooking a big meal on Sundays for at least 2 nights worth of dinner and at least 2 lunches. I do this about 1x or 2x per month.
I think the biggest time saver for me is to NEVER cook just one day's worth of food. I always make enough to at LEAST take for lunch the next day. This way, I can get away with cooking only 3-4 nights a week.

Re: If you work full time
I do, I cook at least 6 nights a week, most weeks 7. The restaurants here are too expensive and take away is limited to Indian, Chinese, Doner Kebabs & Pizza. No thanks! I would rather cook.
I spend part of every Sunday cooking so I don't have to cook one night or so, but I don't get the chance some Sundays.

Re: If you work full time
I work full time and cook basically every day of the week. Usually we have leftovers once or twice during the week.
We go out to eat or order in maybe once a month.

I try to cook every other night. Whenever I cook I make extra for the next night. I always cook from scratch. The more involved dishes I cook on Sunday
The opposite night, I bathe both DC's and do laundry. And, yeah, there are papers to grade after the kids go to bed.
I get up at 4:30 am and I am out the door for work by 5:50am. DH told me the other day he knows how lucky he is because anyone else he knows with that schedule doesn't cook.
My kids don't need to be bathed anymore but my schedule sounds very similar to yours. Fridays kitchen is closed so we get pizza or something similar. I cook usually 4 to 5 nights per week. I do a lot of soups in the winter or pasta salads in the summer. I leave stupid early so I will set up the crockpot the night before and have DH turn it on when he leaves and DS turn it off when he gets home. When we have a lot of baseball/softball practice we have what we call "fend for yourself night" which is pretty self-explanatory. DS and I run usually about 7:30 on a non-practice/religion/SAT class/tutoring night.
Oh and Ophelia - congrats I didn't know.

Re: If you work full time
I try to cook Monday - Thursday. If I do, usually I pick recipes that take 30 minutes or less.
I tidy up the house in the morning before I get in the shower. I do big cleaning on the weekend.
Gym - well when I do work out it is in the morning for half an hour.
I usually go to sleep around 10 PM completely exhausted.

Re: If you work full time
I usually cook 4-5 nights a week (one night is usually leftovers) and then we usually eat out/get take out over the weekend.
I get home around 5, go for a run, and then cook. I do most of my cleaning on the weekends because I don't want to do any more after work...I like to watch a little TV and veg out if I can

Re: If you work full time
I work 3 12-hour days a week.
I cook about 2-3x's a week. Just about each time I cook, I cook for 2 days worth of dinners.
Once a week, DH will go to his parents house for dinner and will come home with left overs so he can have dinner the next night too.
We usually go out to eat once a week.

no way...it's fend for yourself, unless I'm in a cooking mood.
DH worls from home anyway - so he should be the one who feels obliged to cook.

Most week nights,,,,but I get home at 3:15 which makes it much easier IMO if I got home at 5,6,7 I would probably cook less.
