allow your kids to play with hers? And, does the reason her kids aren't vaccinated matter? Just curious what the consensus would be.

I wouldn't care. You never know who is or isn't vaccinated, whether it's your best friend's kid or the kid your child is playing with at Chuckie Cheese.

Yes...so long as the kids aren't sick and since she would be my friend of 20+ years I would trust her to tell me.

My kids are always up to date on their vaccines so for the most part it wouldn't bother me. It's the things they haven't been immunized for that worry me.

I don't care if it is my friend of 20 yrs or of yesterday. One of my friends doesn't have her child vaccinated because when he got his first vaccine he started having seizures (later that day or the next day, not immediately.) I worry more about him catching something, but if she is ok with it so am I. Our boys play all the time.

My friend is a ped herself and she once told me that if she knew of someone who didn't vaccinate at all, she would not want the child near her newborn or young infant because of what she's seen with very sick babies. But she would allow it if her child was older because they would have already received their own immunizations.

Yes I would. Frankly, her kids are more at risk than mine.

no...i hang out with kids all the time who aren't vaccinated at all or not up to date.

planes, trains...anywhere...you don't know what you are around.

some do it for their own beliefs...others do it because of their crummy insurance not covering shots, so they get them when they can.

I don't mean this AT you but I wouldn't let my child as newborn or now near a really sick kid anyway, right?

If they are not sick and your kid is vaccinated.

Not all kids are vaccinated if only based on their age.

Older toddlers and children, probably yes. Younger babies and infants, definitely not.

As long as my DD already had her shots for the things they weren't vaccinated for.
For example if they weren't vaccinated for MMR- I'd want DD to have her shot for it so she couldn't potentional catch Measles or Mumps from them.

I think some people have a false idea of what vaccines do and can't do. You know it takes a few years for a childs immunity to build up form the vaccines to fight off the disease as well as having to have received all the boosters. The children who are most at risk for getting sick is the UN-Vaccinated child, not the vaccinated one.

I've never understood why people freak out about their children playing with un-vaccinated kids.

Here is a scenario. Vaccinated child A comes in contact with a child with measles. Her body recalls that disease and has the antibodies to fight it off and does and the baby doesn't get ill. But she has still been exposed. THe vaccine has prevented her body from succumbing to the illness. Sometimes these kids vaccinated or not get sick as well

If this were to happen to an unvaccinated child most likely they would get sick right away.

The child who is always the most at risk is the un-vaccinated one. The vaccinated child could just as well have been in contact with the disease, their body is fighting it off with no side effects and they can pass it to the un-vaccinated one who gets sick.


I think its crazy that people rely so heavily on vaccine or a first set of babies shots. These are just the beginning foundation of building an immune system.

Vaccines or not, I'm more concerned with good hygeine (handwashing etc) and whether a child has been recently ill or not and not what their vaccination schedule is like.

Before DS gets MMR shot, no, he will not be playing closely with non-vaccinated kids.

eta: I'm really protective anyway, I don't think DS will be playing closely with too many kids until he's 2 anyway. Those he does play with I know well enough to know their doctors and vaccine situations.
