if your child has a wide foot, where do you buy his shoes? (other than stride rite)

need some play shoes for DS. Shoes he can wear with sweats/tees to the babysitter for the park, etc. They're DEF going to be filthy quickly, so I really can't spend stride rite prices.

He was measured between a 6 and 6.5 wide @ SR.

He has a "high" foot - it's chubby from top to bottom, so he has a hard time with some shoes. He has a pair of SR sandals that he slips right out of because the top-of-the-foot strap hits too far away from his ankle.

Thanks!

So you ever go to Stride Rite at the outlets? They have great prices there. I will never go to a regular SR store again!

Tried the outlet - thank you Chat Icon. Either the laces were "too low" on his foot, or the velcro wasn't tight enough to stay on. strike 1. Chat Icon

ooo, payless, really?

try amazon, they have almost all of the brands in one spot, with a decent selection of W shoes.

Payless can be hit or miss but they do carry them sometimes.

Both my girls have wide feet (DD#2 was and xw for a short time). Unfortunately the only place we have been successful is at Stride rite - we sometimes have to try on a few pairs but I didn't have a lot of success at payless - but they are definitely worth trying out.

I just sold our 6.5W Stride Rite ones on here!

Will's up to 8W now. Endless.com has a bunch of stride rite ones too! I just ordered his bigger pairs off of endless after he was sized at Stride Rite.

I wanted to add--I only buy from the washables collection by Stride Rite--you can wash all of them by hand, and they look brand new! Will is on his 3rd pair since he started walking, and they have gotten dirty, but look brand new after washing!

Kohls have some but not a lot of sizes. I have bought stuff on Amazon and Ebay sometimes has it but mostly I have a hard time finding a size 7 wide besides stride rite...Chat Icon

I also do well at Payless. The "Sure Fit" shoes work well for her even when they aren't wide. Chat Icon

Unfortunately, Stride Rite shoes are the only ones that work for my wide footed boys. And even sometime those velcro don't wrap all the way over. Sacouny was oko - but they ripped so quick - I vowed not to buy them again. I mostly buy my SR shoes at shoebuy - using ebates and discount codes - usually get them at outlet prices.

I tried New Balance since they carry wide widths and they weren't wide enough. I never found wide enough ones at payless : ( but I don't try there too often. Sketchers carry wide widths but many are those one strap velcro wrap thing - which my boys can't wear - doesn't wrap around their foot to connect.

It is getting harder to find now that my older son is 5.5yrs....and stride rite aren't always the "cool" sneakers the boys are wearing.

We've had good luck at the Nike and Adidas outlets. I'm going to try Payless next.

New Balance comes in wide but you need to order them online. Those were my favorite sneakers for my DS when he was 1.

Kohls carries New Balance sneakers in wide. I also saw some wide in Famous Footwear under the Buster Brown name.

New Balance carries extra wide

Joe's New Balance Outlet (online) ususally has good sales

Shop endless.com, you can search by width. They have sales for free shipping, etc.

Daffy's believe it or not. They have a large selection of children's shoes that are imported from italy at half the price. The only thing the sizes are european like 20, 21, 22 you have to try them on.

DS is WW and its very difficult to find shoes. we got his first 2 pair at stride rite, but they were 70.00- im not spending that much on baby shoes any more. payless sells ww, but its a hit or miss. try online...
