I didn't. I got her shoes from Target and Payless. I love her sneakers from Payless- they are champion leather and very sturdy.

Do they have boys sneakers there? The ones I have seen from Marshalls have all been on little girls - its so hit and miss there - how do you choose the right size?

So those are good for their feet when they are learning to walk?

I go to the stride rite store, and get her measured. Then order them online at shoebuy with discounts. I've never paid more than $20 for any of her SR shoes, and often less.

What's the price range for Stride Rite shoes? I keep hearing they are expensive but that we'll need them. I do not know yet how much baby's shoes should cost. I'm sure they outrgrow them fast, too.

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
I usually got them one pair every so often, the pair they would wear the most. But I buy them at the SR outlet or from Marshalls. If you want to go that route, just go into a store and have his foot measured, try on some shoes for sh!ts and giggles (well to see the best fit) and then say no thanks. You can also get them cheaper on Shoebuy.com and other online places.

Century21 has them for like $20
But you dont have to buy Stride rite. My nephews only live and wear them I think most of their styles are not cute, IMO.

So did you buy the shoes there, or just use the measurements to find other types of shoes?
I'm curious about his actual shoe size, because he also has little sausages for feet!

The "cruising" shoes were $42-$45 , I was NOT spending that on his sneakers. NO freaking way.

thats what I thought. I guess once they walk they are more important and I could see the expense then, but not for crawlers or cruisers IMO.

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
I buy DD one pair of Stride Rite's for the season, usually her sneakers. Her dress shoes and sandals I get from Target. Although I was in Nordstroms the other day and bought her an adorable pair of Geox sneakers for 60 bucks!! OMG what was I thinking

This was the same thing for Matthew...I never knew he had an extra wide foot and I felt bad buying him the wrong size all this time.

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
I do believe in Stride Rite shoes especially for a growing foot. I cut corners everywhere else but with the history of foot problems on both sides of the family I'm not taking any risks. I believe that kids need a good pair of shoes.
Jack has an extra wide foot so I definitely buy his there - he's extremely hard to fit. I will literally try on 10 different pairs of shoes and come home with only 1 that really fits him.
Ava has a wide foot but I can get away with Sketchers for sneakers (which are still a great shoe but can always be bought at a discount) and then Target shoes for "fun". However, she is also at the age where she can tell me if a shoe hurts or is too big/small so that is an advantage.

I saw Munchkins by Stride Rite at Kohls. Didn't see the price, just remembered seeing the endcap for them. Maybe they'll be less there.

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
Im not sure if they have to be stride rite- but I do suggest going to a childrens shoe store & having their foot measured and buying them a good pair of walking shoes (especially for their first pair) For the most part stride rite is the cheaper end of "good" shoes...
I would have them sized in a childrens shoes store and then go to the stride rite outlets or order them from shoebuy to save some $$$

Re: Do I need to buy him Stride Rite shoes?
I asked my Peds Orthopedic about this. She told me go out and do the new mommy thing for each kid. Buy them their first pair of expensive shoes and after that it doesn't matter where you buy them. (Payless,Target, etc..) She told me to do this because every mommy is excited about the first pair of shoes.
She then told me the Stride Rite sneakers I had on my dd at the time were actually too heavy. You should look for light weight shoes. It makes it easier for them to walk and run. Makes sense.
I told her my dd had a wide foot. She told me Payless shoes actually run a little wider. She was right.
