If your DC has a milk allergy AND cant tolerate soy
What formula do you use? I feel like we're running out of options. We've tried Alimentum, soy, and now we're attempting Similac Sensitive RS (which is still milk-based, so I dont think its going to be good for him).
I'm at a complete loss. He projectile vomits on the Alimentum, is constipated on the soy, and now he's sleeping less than 30 minutes at a clip and crying all the time. I'm so sleep deprived that I'm sick to my stomach and feel like I'm going to pass out. I just need something to work for him

Amino acid formula-I'm pretty sure I've posted this to you before. Available by prescription and in most cases covered by insurance(we pay $160 co-pay per month supply) Elecare, Neocate or what my son is on Nutramigen AA. FTR he did not like Elecare or Neocate but loves AA. Your Dr should be able to get you a sample to try.
You should also be careful about touching him after you've had dairy. My son breaks out in hives if kissed by someone who has had dairy.

First off, I am sorry you are going through this. We had to try a few formulas with DD but luckily Alimentum worked for us. I hope you are working with a pediatric gastroenterologist. Prescription formula like Elecare is probably your next step and they are very expensive. Hopefully your insurance will cover.

My nephew uses Elecare. He also had problems with Alimentum.
ETA: He is now 1 year, and my sister introduced rice milk (he still can't drink milk or soy milk) to try and wean him from the formula.

Re: If your DC has a milk allergy AND cant tolerate soy
I am going through the same thing with my DS right now. He is on Nutramigen but he is not doing too well on it. He is uncomfortable during the feedings, has to be burped litterally like every 30 seconds and has a terrible diaper rash. My nexr step is to take him to a Ped Gastro to be put on an Amino Acid formula.
I feel your pain

Re: If your DC has a milk allergy AND cant tolerate soy
Thanks ladies.
For those of you with your DC on a prescription Amino Acid formula, can your normal Ped give you a prescription for that or do you need to see a Ped Gastro for it?
We're going to see a gastro but it takes several days for the referral to go thru my insurance company and then still another days for an appointment. I'm seeing the normal Ped tomorrow afternoon so I was hoping she'd be able to just give me the prescription in the meantime.

Re: If your DC has a milk allergy AND cant tolerate soy
ah- looks like i'm not the only one going through this crap. DD has been on nestle good start, alimentum, nutramigen, soy, you name it. you can get a prescription from your regular ped. fyi- DD threw up alimentum but tolerated nutramigen. have you tried introducing it slowly? don't switch right away to a new formula----mix it 50/50 with the old formula a few times before going to 100% new formula. good luck!
