If you've been to Venice, Italy, please come in.

I'm currently trying to decide between two hotels, one in San Marco that is right in the heart of the main tourist area (steps from the Piazza San Marco) and one in San Croce that is a little bit off the beaten path, but is supposed to be a "hidden jewel" of a hotel (it's very small and intimate, almost like a B&B). I'm usually very adamant about staying in a prime location, but I'm thinking this little jewel of a place that's a little out of the way might be nice. Thoughts?

I have been to Venice-- and I would not stay IN San Marco-- it's like their equivalent of Times Sq.-- lots of pigeons and tourists.

Definitely get a street/canal map-- that city is a b*tch to get lost in!!

Would you mind naming the hotel?

We stayed just outside Piazza san Marco...it really was the best location.

Its reallllllly easy to get lost there, and you can walk for hours...IMO, i'd stay in an "easy" location.

We stayed here -- it had a cozy, small hotel feel to it, and the view from the balcony was AWESOME Chat Icon

I would stay in the "hidden jewel"

i loved Venice...

Definitely stay at the hidden jewel. San Marco gets so crowded so it'll be nice to retreat back to somewhere cozy.

I'd have to agree about the map. It's a must have. I can't recommend a hotel 'cause I stayed in a monastery when I was there, but I would stay at the other hotel that's not near San Marco.
