hmmm I visited years ago when I was 9....it was over Thanksgiving weekend. My parents and I were at a dance competition.....I remember having mashed potatoes at a restaurant and they were soooooo yummy! But I don't remember the name of the place.

Might it have been Good 'N Plenty, Plain and Fancy, Millers Smorgasbord, or Bird-in Hand Restaurant? Mary

We went this past summer. My kids enjoyed the Hands on House, Indian Echo Caverns, and the Amish Village. They really loved going on an Amish buggy ride and the Strasburg Railroad.

When I was a kid, I think we went to Lancaster at least once per year. I don't know if it exists anymore, but there was a restaurant called Zinn's that we loved. There was a playground and a miniature golf course in the back. Great childhood memories there.

I remember them having regular tables and chairs and then 2 table in the middle of the restaurant were for "communal eating" almost like american food hibachi.....where a large group could all sit together even with strangers and eat at the same table....does this sound like anything they still have there?

Family Style eating can be found at Good 'N Plenty and Plain and Fancy; Good 'N Plenty now offers single meals, which I have not tried yet. Both our Son, and DD, Debi worked as servers there. Mary

I went to college in E-town... you would think I would have spent more time in Lancaster, but as a busy college student, I missed out on some things there. Most of the time we went into Lancaster, it was to go to Park City! I also enjoyed the family style dinner places like Good 'N Plenty and the shopping outlets.

My sis lives in Lancaster and my parents are not far from there. We love going to Shady Maple Smorgasboard. In the summer, we have been to baseball games for the Lancaster Barnstormers and it's a fun time!

Thanks for the link! There are definitely several childhood photos of me in front of the big statue. When I was really little, it used to talk, but it eventually stopped working.

Re: If you've ever visted Lancaster County, what did you like the most?
As a kid, I loved Lancaster and the Steamboat Inn!!!
DH and I just went to Lancaster this past summer (less than a day, more of a drive through with some stops) as we headed to Hershey. There was a little village that was adorable with shops and whatnot...that was cute! Then we also hit some sort of indoor flea market type of building. DH enjoyed the free samples And we also went to the Outlets which were good for the few stores we went into. Then we ate at Fuddruckers, right next to Dutch Wonderland! Part of me wanted to go to Dutch Wonderland but knew I would def go there eventually when I either have kids of my own or nieces and nephews!! Beautiful to drive through! I love looking at the houses, farms, animals, etc. especially the horse and carriages!!! The only frustrating thing are the detour routes, we were dependent upon our GPS and the detour totally messed us up. Scenic, yet we thought we were going to be truly lost!!!

Hey Mary! I am actually going to Lancaster for a business trip next Friday. I am hoping we'll have some time after our work duties to see some things around Lancaster. I was there when I was younger...all I really remember is Amish Town. I loved it.

Loved The Steamboat Restaurant!!!! DH and I ate breakfast there every Sun. but when they changed things, we stopped going. I should check it out again!!! Oh!!! Fudruckers!!!! DD, Debi, waitressed at Applebees, in that complex: My DH and I love Texas Roadhouse, next to Fudruckers. We've also eaten at Fudruckers, with our Grandson. The Village might have been Amish Village, if you were on Rt. 896. As a local, sometimes I know ways around those annoying detours!!! Sometimes, though, I found more!!!!! If you ever come again, I can suggest other roads to the scenic views!!!! Mary

Yes, Texas Roadhouse is good. We have one here on LI. We do not have Fuddruckers anymore here though, so that's why we chose it!!! As a PP posted, the little village was Kitchen Kettle. And Dutch Wonderland was the highlight of the trip to Lancaster as a kid. I def want to try one of the Smorgasbords one day...my mom told me we ate at one when we were little but I don't remember it! I'll def keep you in mind for directions next time we go
