They don't need to know you're on LIW/LIF per se. If you google your handle(s), it will show all public messageboards you belong to and post on, along with a lot of the actual posts.

I had problems with someone on LIW (a "fake" poster, but someone who knew I was getting married).
I'm sure she reads my posts on LIF now. Whatever, right?  I think it's pathetic and kind of sad.

Yes i had my sister find me on LIW by doing this, post replies to a topic i had started and there was certainly no happy ending to that!

My DH was searching for restaurant reviews and came upon a post I replied to on this site. This was a recent as February, by the way.
Just by doing Google search for the restaurant's name, my post and comments came right up. So it's not just by searching for your screenname (handle).
He knows I go to this site, but it was a bit of an eye-opener at how fast things spread on the internet. I did have to explain what DH meant....no, it's not d!ckhead!! LOL!!!

I had someone stalk me on a journal site. It was all anonymous and they didn't know the SN, but I accidentally forgot to edit the SN out of an IM comversation in one place. Someone googled the SN and found my online journal. next thing I know printed copies of journal entires and rumours that I was cheating on FH were all over his family. I wasn't cheating on him. I had one entry about how my annoyed ex was trying to get into my pants, and then another semi cryptic one about loving FH, and they took it upon themselves to decide the second one was about the ex. Fh's cousin called his sister, who called his grandparents who called his parents who finally called him and said "Jennifer is cheating on you"

Me too! It was actually the gf of a guy friend of mine (we had a totally platonic relationship). She was jealous of our friendship and she started stalking me on LIW and followed me here. I changed my name on LIW 3 times!!!!!

Same here.
But when I was posting about DH's surgery and condition, someone found me here.
It's so rare and there's so little information on it that when you google it, you find my LIF threads on it.
I went back and deleted the name of the condition so that would stop.
