I'm bored, so...tell me, what was something you always believed as a child that isn't really true?
I have so many, it's sad
I thought my dad had psychic powers because when he would come home from school, he'd say, "Sooo, you got 100 on your spelling test? Huh?" It never dawned on me that he spoke to my mother
Also, someone told me when I was little that an X rated movie was a really scary movie and I think I believed that until I was a teenager

I seriously believed that all teachers were EVIL and lived just to make my life miserable. That their sole purpose in life was to think of ways to assign the most homework and exams they possibly could.
Now, some of my BFF's are teachers, and I about this all the time!

my friend's son did not realize that dogs can be girls or boys. I asked him if my dog was a "good boy." He said, "He's not a boy, he is a dog." I tried to explain that dogs can be girls and they can be boys. He looked at me like I was crazy and didn't speak to me for the rest of the the day.

I thought my dad was an astronaut. My mom made me a astronaut costume for halloween with a NASA badge on it. My dad always talked about going to work at NASA. Years later I learned he worked at Nassau and was a professor not a astronaut.

My dad was pretty much the insomniac and used to fall asleep on the couch late night watching t.v.
I used to say, "Daddy, if you are still in the living room, Santa will see you and not give us our Christmas gifts!!!"
He used to say, "Don't worry, whenever Santa comes into the room and sees me awake, he sprinkles "magic dust" to make me fall asleep.
My liittle bro was afraid to wake up early Chirstmas morning for years (magic dust).

Oh and a mothers intuition regarding the sex of your child during pregnancy. My mom always said, "You just know." She never found out and picked our appropriate names. (3 times).

Ha! You must be famous amongst Nassau students.
I thought a blind date was a date with a blind person & that shepard's pie had actual shephards in it.
And my brother, the tomboy next door & I believe that if she kept acting like a boy she would turn into one. My mom quickly set us straight on that!

After asking my mom about where babies came from, I somehow wound up thinking that just living with a boy or being too close to them would get you pregnant. (Mind you, this was about 2nd grade...)

Re: I'm bored, so...tell me, what was something you always believed as a child that isn't really true?
I used to really believe that you could dig your way to China, which I totally tried to do a million times. And for some reason, in my head, that meant that the US was at the top of the globe (like at the Artic) and China was at the very bottom (where Antartica is).
I am embarrassed to say that I believed that until I was a teenager. even though I'd seen maps and globes, I never connected it.

Re: I'm bored, so...tell me, what was something you always believed as a child that isn't really true?
When I was young and asked my mom where babies come from she told me the technical aspect of it, that the man's sperm fertilizes the woman's egg which grows in the woman's "belly" and then 9 months later a baby is born. I was too young then so she said that when I got older she would explain more. Well I knew that the man and woman were in bed when they made a baby but I was picturing the man in his PJs on one side of the bed and the woman in her PJs on the other. I thought they just had to lay in bed together to make a baby. I couldn't figure out how the sperm was able to travel across the bed to get in the woman's belly and how it knew where to go

I believed the phrase "Your face will freeze like that".
And whenever someone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up I always responded, "I want to marry Daddy and become a Mommy". I thought that was legit - little did I know about incest!
