After asking my mom about where babies came from, I somehow wound up thinking that just living with a boy or being too close to them would get you pregnant. (Mind you, this was about 2nd grade...)
This was me, too! I remember asking my mom and she said you need to like a boy. So I remember thinking, "Must not like Tommy, must not like Tommy!" because I knew at 8, I was too young to be a mom!

My mom had eyes in the back of her head.
That bologna was made of cow's lips (my friend told me that & I never ate it again).
I believed that the Prime Minster of England called me. When I was 9, I threw a bottle in Northport Harbor & it floated to England (true story). When I got a postcard from the person who found it, my dad's co-worker called & pretended to be the Prime Minister of England, which wasn't nearly as cool as if the Queen had called since I didn't know what a Prime Minister was at the age of 9.

I can't think of one for me, but my Mom always thought her Dad went to work to "make money" She envisioned him at a desk with a green pen "making" money

When we used to go out to Glen Cove to see my family, the lights on the highway used to come on as we were driving back. My dad used to tell me that a little person lived inside the box at the bottom and ran from light to light to put it on. I used to look for him and he said he would move so fast, that I as a child, wasnt able to see him. I believed that for SO LONG! Talk about gullible!!!!

My older brother told me that if I touched my belly button it would unravel and my guts would spill out.
When ever I bugged him he would threaten to do it.
Gotta love your big brothers

I remember when my dad used to be heading out to do something, and didn't want to take one of the kids, so when we asked him where he was going, this was his standard reply for many years: "I am going to see a man about a horse"
My brothers and sisters used to sit around and wonder when dad would finally bring the horse home

Re: I'm bored, so...tell me, what was something you always believed as a child that isn't really true?
i reall thought if you ate a cherry pit a tree would grow in your belly
i thought my dad's car "knew" where to go and it talked to my dad but only when we weren't around - my dad would get in the car and say "go to the supermarket" and i would be amazed that the car knew exactly where to go! LOL
I thought if you slept with flowers in your room they would suck up all the air and you would die - my parents STILL believe this and to this day they will sneak flowers out of my room if I try to keep them in there overnight
for a REALLY long time I thought you had to take a rocketship to go to italy. . .

Re: I'm bored, so...tell me, what was something you always believed as a child that isn't really true?
I always had to treat my dolls and stuffed animals nicely, because I thought in the middle of the night while I was asleep, they would come alive and hurt me if I wasn't good to them.
If I ate a watermelon seed, a watermelon would grow in my belly.
That my dad had Santa's phone#, and he would call him in front of me and tell him how good I was this year. I used to get so excited about that.

My son somehow got that impression too
I never knew when a family pet passed away, they always went to live on a mouse farm in Arizona! I believed this for way more years than I care to say

Re: I'm bored, so...tell me, what was something you always believed as a child that isn't really true?
Ah some more:
I was completely convinced that my mom wasn't my real mother, even though we looked exactly alike. My real mother was a princess. When my mom would be yelling at us about something, it wouldn't bother me that much because I would think to myself "Go ahead & yell. My real mom is coming for me any day now." I was amused that I would be leaving my sisters with their mom & they would have to do chores while my servants did everything for me.
I also believed that I was magic & my powers hadn't started yet - I wasn't sure if blinking my eyes or twitching my nose would trigger it so I would practice in my room at night.
My father used to travel to Germany for work. He told us he that he had another family - Hansel & Gretel. I believed him until I heard my mother telling him to stop lying because we would believe him. He said that we wouldn't believe that. She was right.
btw I'm still laughing over the xrated movies being scary. That's genius!

I thought that lions lived under the Robert Moses Causeway bridge because when we drove over the grates it sounded like a roar. Speaking of bridges, my friend was afraid of them and would close her eyes because she thought her parents drove the car on the structure of the bridge! (like a roller coaster!)

I used to think that my teachers were watching me 24/7, that they would watch me through my window to make sure I was doing my homework. Funny how kids think teachers have no other life!

I believed we had Goblins that lived in our fireplace. Their names were Cecil and George.
When my aunt would visit, she would leave us treats from "the goblins"
