I'm curious those that don't use BPA free bottles
What are your reasons for not switching? Just curious...no flames.

Re: I'm curious those that don't use BPA free bottles
My older DD used Avent, and I was happy enough with them (and this was before all this BPA stuff) so I got them again for my younger DD...who will be a year in May and still uses them. Soon she'll be off bottles anyhow, and if/when I have #3 I will look into an alternative at that point.

I didn't conciously make the decision to GIVE her a BPA bottle, I just didn't know better before all these reports came out...
As I just wrote on another thread -
If it's not one thing, it's another
Next, we will all be allergic to water and they will tell you to stay away from that too...

Glass isn't perfect, either. There are cases of babies breaking the bottles, and getting injured. Everyone has to weigh the pros and cons of every decision, and chose the "lesser of two evils", in their opinion.

I agree with PP said. I used Dr. Browns/Ventair with both kids and to be honest, all I keep wondering is why these companies haven't pulled their stuff off the shelves if it poses such a health risk?

Re: I'm curious those that don't use BPA free bottles
Since we all have been ingesting this "BPA" for god knows how long, and according to a study, 95% of the people tested had it in their urine, I don't think it's going to matter one bit if we eliminate baby bottles that have it. We carried these babies in our bodies, so whatever we were ingesting, so were they, so IF there's a problem, I think the damage is already done.
I think the hysteria is out of control and unless you avoid ALL plastics, grow your own food, slaughter your own animals, don't use any chemicals whatsoever, and stay in your house, you are going to be exposed to a variety of toxins in your lifetime. Most of them bad.

Re: I'm curious those that don't use BPA free bottles
I asked my pediatrician and she said that is wasn't necessary. The tests were done on rats/mice and they were given toxic levels according to her that wouldn't be present in a baby bottle. She also said that many things happen to rats/mice that don't happen to humans. (I am just repeating what she told me).

I use Dr Browns and haven't switched because I don't heat the bottles in the microwave.

This is not 100% true. I posted the other day all the BPA info for anyone who wanted it and linked to Large studies done on children. Some of which showed Attention disorders, developmental disorders etc they "believe" are linked to BPA and other plastic additives......
We try our best to do what we can.
yes its A LOT..a WHOLE LOT of worry, fears etc...BUT at he same time..my childs LIFE is in my hands and Im the only one who can make those decisions and am prepared to do what I had to do. After the intial studies came out I STILL USED My Dr. Browns....But then I read into it and found info I hadnt known or the news didnt report on channel 4 at night and made a decision then to change.
BUT I see nothing wrong with parents who decide its too much for them to worry about. There are no 100% proven studies and thats a good arguement IMO as well.
The reason those plastic companies still sell the product is b/c alternatives are costly. Bornfree bottles cost a lot more...thats why.
Also the Government will allow them to sell them without fear b/c they dont want in a recession...the companies to "go under".
There are countries in the world where BPA is illegal to be in any plastics geared towards babies and children.
That worries me, when its not here.
While we All ingest some form of BPA, the reason its worse for children is under developed immune systems that cannot handle it the way adults can.
All the arguements on BOTH sides of the fence seem valid.
I hope we can put facts out there and not judge one another.
I sense that some moms feel like they are beoing looked at as Not good enough moms b/c they allow it still, while the other half feels like they are looked at like paranoid nellies.
Its ok no matter what we choose...lets support each others decisions!

Re: I'm curious those that don't use BPA free bottles
I use the avent ones and i have been using them since DS was born. However, i might switch to the born free bottles. I am thinking about taking him off the bottle anyway since he will be 12 months in 2 months. So i will probably just buy a four pack of the born free bottles. With baby number 2 I will definitely look into the BPA free bottles.
