I'm feeling a bit down today, could use some inspiration or hugs

Johnny is probably starting a preschool in September. It is for other children his age going through developmental delays. He will have OT/speech therapy every day.

I am OK with this. I know it is good for him...I am just SAD. I can't shake this sad feeling...I HATE that he is going through problems. Some days I can't tell anything is even wrong and he's so happy and good...

Then its like a switch goes off and he's having meltdowns and I feel like the world is ending.

I hate that my baby has to have extra "help" so early in life and hes gone through so much already. HE is fine and doesn't know anything different but his mom is another story

Sometimes I read posts about babies saying all these words and they are so much younger than him..and while I'm happy for them, I'm sad for me.

They tell me he'll be talking soon (he is starting to!!!)...and he is already so much better with receptive skills. He understand almost everything we say and you can just tell he's a smart cookie. But there are times when this overwhelming feeling comes over me and I will cry on and off throughout the day...

ANyways, I am babbling. Just keep my son in your thoughts if you can. He is my world and I love him so much. Here is a recent pic I feel like posting cause it makes me happy!!

I know it must be hard, but I think it's great that he'll be getting help at such an early age. And congrats on the progress he's already made!

I recently met a woman in her 90's who had 6 children.

She told me each one of her kids needed some "extra help" at different stages of their lives.

One of her DD's was slow to crawl, walk, etc. and needed a lot of extra help (and they didn't have EI back then) when she was under 2.

Another had a hard time during the first few years of school... two other's needed a lot of TLC in the teenage years... another got into a rough marriage in his 20's and needed a lot of help then.

Let's hope that this will be the most difficult challenge that your DS will face.

It's probably hard to imagine but I'm sure he'll catch up in no time. Heck, he might even follow in DH's footsteps go into politics and be a great public speaker

I can understand htat it will make you feel down at times, but just know that what you are doing for him (getting help so early on) will do wonders for him later in life.

My youngest brother was deaf until age 2. Also epileptic. He went to a special speech and language school that was amazing! He went to a regular elem school after that and had speech therapy in elem ed.

Now he is 27, has a Bachelors and a Masters and is a social worker!

I know it's hard to think that far in advance now but it's better that it be taken care of now! He will be ok

That is a great picture!!

I see your arms around him and I read your words and I have to tell you...you are an amazing mom!!!

That you can push past the blindness of love (it's so easy as parents for all of us to see are children as only perfect) and the crutch of denial (very easy to fall into with our kids as well) and get him every available resource speaks volumes about you...not only as a mom but as a person in general.

Your feeling are perfectly normal and totally make sense. There's a lot going on but I want you to know that I think you are great!

I think that what you do for your son is nothing short of amazing and one day...one day soon you will see how all of this extra help really changes his whole world. And remember...you made that possible!

Your words mean so much.

And I know I can face WHATEVER life throws at me and I do know people go through tougher hardships...

It is just hard not completley knowing what will happen, thats all. I'd love to think of Johnny in school...running in the door telling me "look what I made today!" or having friends over to play..

And i do think in my heart he will be OK. But some days...I just wonder how much it'll take and how much hardship he'll go through to get to that place. I notice the differences between him and other kids his age and it hurts sometimes.

It's great that he can do this and great for you to recognize what he needs right now. You're a great mom for that.

I think you are an awesome mom and I think what you are doing for your son is great.

I believe Johnny will do great things. We all need some extra help every once in a while. Easier said than done but don't get caught up in what other babies are doing at the same age. We all progress at differnent speeds.



Lean on us when you need to. We will boost you up!

I am completely crying right now!!

I feel like we are similiar in ssooooooo many ways that I hate it that you are sad.

But, then I scroll down to see this little boy's shining smile and OMG!! things might be a little different now, but that is a smile from a boy with one of the GREATEST moms I have ever got to know!

He is wonderful, and believe me, he has special gifts that the world just hasn't seen yet. Its all going to come, plus some.

With a mom like you, the sky is the limit for this kid.

Maureen, your story made me cry, because I go though this everyday with Christopher. I read on here all the words everyones kids are saying, and all I want is Christopher to say is "mama" and say it looking at me. I cry everyday for him, am I doing enough for him, and what is going to happen in the future for him? Will he need someone to care for him when he gets older, will he have the same friends as Matthew will have because Matthew is "typical"
Johnny is so lucy to have such a caring and loving mom, who will at no means give up on him. You are always in my thoughts each and everyday.

First of all Johnny is soooo cute!

I know exactly how you feel. That switch flips in my house quite often. But, things get better everyday, even if I don't see it everyday.

Just look at it like this... What kid wouldn't benefit from a little more attention and help each day? Preschool will be great, he will learn and make friends, and then he will come home to a mom who loves him and gives him everything he needs. Who has it better than him?

He is such a cute little boy- and very blessed to have such a loving and thoughtful mom. I think you are doing all of the right things!!!!
