I'm freaking!!!!!!!!!! Camera related

While on a playdate with Jack & Diana, I dropped my d40 Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I had the 18-55 lens on, and apparently I broke the lens/messed it up, you can't see through the lens at all. Chat Icon

I put the 55-200 lens on, and it works, but it seems like the flash isn't working (although it pops up like normal, the pics are darker than normal).

I'm FREAKING!!!!!!!!!

It was a gift-- they got it at Ritz Camera and I have a service plan, but who knows what that means. And I CANNOT BE WITHOUT MY CAMERA WHILE THEY FIX IT!!!!!!!! Chat Icon

Ritz camera service plan is wonderful. You could have dropped it in a tub of water and they would replace the camera for you. Go there asap and bring the lens and camera. They will fix or replace it.

I didn't have a protection plan on my camera and wrecked my 18-55 lens at the beach. I had to buy a new one TWICE(the first one was used and broke a year later). Now I have the Ritz plan and it covers everything.

I would call them up right away and see what they can do for you!

I would be freaking out too! That is such a nice camera!!!! And I know how much you love taking pics of your DD!!!

Did you have a lens filter on the lens? I know Barbara is always telling the DSLR users to make sure they use them!

You are giving me hope-- THANK YOU!!!

I am just envisioning having to be without a camera while they look at it, with Halloween coming up, and I take pictures literally every day of DD. I can't be without it.Chat Icon

Do you have your old camera to use just in case you don't get it back in time? Even if it's not the best camera in the world you can probably get OK pics outside while trick-or-treating! At least it will be better then nothing!

How ironic that you ask that Chat Icon I had 2 filters, bought them at Ritz camera b/c of Barb's posts! Put one on my 18-55 lens, one on my 55-200. Somehow the one on my 55-200 came off (I find it happens when I take the lens cover off I guess), so I have been switching the filter back and forth between the lenses as I use them, until I could go get another one. But then last Saturday, NOT EVEN A WEEK AGO, while we were pumpkin picking, that filter disappeared too. Chat Icon I have no idea where/how/why they disappear on me, but they do.

And this could have all been prevented probably if I had the damn filter Chat Icon

Don't beat yourself up over it. Its sounds like a pretty good smash that a filer wouldn't have helpedChat Icon If you went there today, you probably will have it fixed by Halloween. Most likely they will just give you a new lens since they are more expensive to fix. Chat Icon

Spoke to them at Ritz...I am taking it in tomorrow. She said they'll have to send it out most likely, and it could be gone at least 2 weeks, and sometimes as much as 8 weeks Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I really was counting on it for Halloween pics Chat Icon

Does your mom or a close friend (like Christine suggested) have a camera you can use?!?

I don't have a d40, but I had to send my camera away last year to be serviced and it was very quick (thru Best Buy tho) but it was toughChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Where do you live? I'm off on Halloween for my kid's parade.

You can buy a disposable digital or if you want, I have a film camera you can use that will fit your lens.

Re: I'm freaking!!!!!!!!!! Camera related

Thank you everyone for the offers to borrow a camera, I appreciate it SO MUCH!!!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have a regular Nikon point & shoot that's only 2 years old, it's a decent camera but not fast at all...now I just need to find it, I last used it for work like 5 months ago and it's not in the camera bag Chat Icon

I'm just so bummed, but I know there are worse things to happen.
