I'm such a horrible mother.
I could hurl myself off a building right now for how horrible I am Ava has been doing nothing but throwing temper tantrums since she got home with JT at 3:30, and I just couldn't take it anymore because she's been screaming and crying and throwing things, throwing her body, etc. She has a bruise on her face because she was throwing herself on the floor and hit the corner of a cardboard box Anyway, I just couldn't take it anymore after 4 hours straight of screaming and hanging on my leg and hitting me and so I yelled at her so badly that she actually got scared. So then I was so upset I started to cry, which made HER cry more. Ugg. I am such an awful mother right now, and please don't tell me that I'm not because what little girl deserves to be yelled at so badly? I hate myself so much right now. She's sitting on my lap right now because I feel so bad and I don't want to let her go.

Re: I'm such a horrible mother.
Rachel, you aren't a horrible mother at all
You are a great mother, you know you pushed yourself a little too far and admitted to it. It is not an easy gig, this parenting thing.
I think you are one of the best parents that I know

Re: I'm such a horrible mother.
Thanks, girls. Of course now I feel so bad that even though she refused to eat dinner this evening, I gave her a heaping bowl of apple crisp that I made So, I'm pretty sure she's forgotten all about me yelling at her. Ugg. It's not often that I totally lose my cool with her, but when I do, I swear I could curl up in a ball and cry for days.

Re: I'm such a horrible mother.
You are a fantastic mother who had a not-so-fantastic moment. You show me ONE SINGLE MOTHER who has not something similar and I will show you a Stepford Wife.
Wanna hear one of my bad mommy stories? Robbie was 2 and half. Noah was a newborn. Noah was SCREAMING his head off non-stop for whatever reason newborns decide to scream (probably because he could sense how frazzled I was). Robbie was off the charts with his behavior and Rob was off galavanting because his mother needed him to do errands. I was at my wits end. I picked up the phone to call someone and Robbie was just HARASSING me. "Who you calling? Who you calling? TELL ME! TELL ME! I WANNA TALK! ARRRGGHHH! WAAAHHHH!" So I told my little boy that I was calling the circus so I could sell him and his baby brother to them. Can I tell you that his eyes got SO BIG. I will never forget it. He looked at me with this huge, scared eyes and was like "I am sorry I am a bad boy Mommy! Please keep me! I LOVE YOU!" I felt like the biggest piece of dog cr*p going. I picked him up and hugged him and rocked him and swore I was kidding and I would NEVER sell him to the circus. But I still felt horrible. Until he peered up at me and said "Can we still sell Noah?"
Hang in there kid... it isn't the first time a great mommy has snapped... and it won't be the last!

Re: I'm such a horrible mother.
You are not horrible at all...
You snapped...it happens...ESP. when they act they way you just described...
I always try to remember that me yelling actually prolongs the chaos, however sometimes Rj is yelling so loud, I cant hear that little voice.

We've all been in the same position- parenting is very trying at times and we've all had moments we wish we could take back. You're a great mom!

How well said! Yes, you snapped and yelled at Ava. It happens. But at your worse, what do you do, you YELL. We all loose it sometimes. If the worst thing you do is yell at her every 2 years, you're one of the best mom's out there!

Re: I'm such a horrible mother.
Well it must be the moon or something because I just had a bad mommy afternoon/night. My youngest, who is 5 and challenging (i.e. hard headed ) gave me a really hard time before camp this morning. After camp,, she played with my neighbor's daughter before dinner and was, for lack of a better word "creepy." SHe proceeded to hardly touch her dinner and just cry with the slightest provocation, after I explained to her that I was way "to old for this" and that she was being an unbelievably "bad girl", the poor kid projectile vomited for ten minutes straight. Talk about feeling like a POS mother. So induct me into the club tonight.

You're not a horrible mother - you're human!!
And for the record...a horrible mother would have yelled at her, and then blamed her and not felt guilty about it. Clearly not you!

Re: I'm such a horrible mother.
You are so not a horrible mother...we all have moments like this...your only human.
I just pulled this from an old FM that I have...this was my "moment"...
I'm so upset over this and I just don't know what to do. I'm so scared i'm going to start getting mad at him during these episodes at night. I found myself so frustrated last night that I said out loud to him "will you go to f*cking sleep already" and cried myself to sleep because of it. I feel like such a loser for saying that to my child....i'm in tears just thinking about it.

The LAST thing you are is a horrible mother. If you are, then we all are because we've alllll had those moments.

So true! We've all had a moment.... or 2 when we lose it. I think the important thing is you recognize it.
