I'm totally over-protective

My best girlfriend just got a 3 month old cocker spaniel this past weekend. She is single, works full time and lives in a house (not an apartment). This doggie has to be home alone from 7:00am to like 4:00 or 5:00pm every day during the week. I worry about him. Chat Icon My girlfriend loves the dog but does not worry about him nearly as much as I do. Am I just being over-protective?

That's kind of a long day for a puppy. I wouldn't be so worried about the dog as I would about her floors! I can't imagine that puppy can hold it for that long yet.

yeah, Sorry, i have to say that youre being over-protective and really for no reason... unless your friend isnt treating the dog well i dont see why there is a need to feel that way...

I would feel bad for him too. I would hope she comes home to let him out to use the bathroom or has a dog walker. That's really too long for a puppy to hold it in my experience. Is he crated or gated into a kitchen?

Re: I'm totally over-protective

I don't think its over-protective to worry about a pet... but there is not much you can do.

I do think that is a long day for a puppy... their bladders aren't able to hold it for that long. Maybe she'd consider a pet sitter to give him a break during the day?

But if he is otherwise well taken care of, loved, treated right... He'll adjust.

i wouldn't worry about him, but i would feel bad that he's being left alone for almost the entire day.
