im very upset! re; dd and i being sick.. and again with the PED (sorry this is long)

we were away this past weekend and i came down with what we thought was strep as soon as i got hom i went right to the doctor. i had a VERY sore throat and a nasty cough. I went to the doctor on thursday night and took abby on friday morning. Abby had a cough and what looked like conjunctivitis.

my doc. told me it looked like strep but was sending out a culture and would call me ( hes a personal friend ) and gave me a zpac. I completed the meds today and feel 100% better.

I took abby to the doc the next morning. and i explained to the doc what was going on and that my doc thought it was strep so wanted her to be swabbed and checked blah blah blah.
The ped barely looks at her, my major complaint at this time was the nasty ***** gunky eyes. she didnt even look at them. didnt check her ears, flet her belly a little listened to her breathing and heart and called it a day. then as she was walkig out i said are you going to swab her throat. and she said oh ok but babies dont get strep. so i said does she need antibiotics or anyhting? she said yes drops for her eyes for 7 days. but babies can not have antibiotics again i was so i left. expecting i would hear back in a day or so about the swab.

fast forward to today and My doctor calls and says i have a heavy growth of something calling hemophilus infulenzae. some type of bacteria that can cause HiB... and abby obviously hasnt had all her vaccinations. so he advises me that the zpac will completely cure what i have (my dh was in the office seeing him today with the same sypmtoms and is being treated as well) Abbys cough is Very bad. so he advises me that i should call the PEd in the am and tell them what my results were and to expcet that they treat her with antibiotics because not only can this bacteria cause conjuntivitis it can lead to HiB, and can cause pneumonia,RSV and a slue of other things.

my concern is that my ped will not treat my dd. Her cough is croupy and is keeping her up at night. she cannot sleep laying down and just still sounds sick. so if you were me and the ped doesnt prescribe anything would you call a new ped and get a second opinion?

First off and I'm glad your feeling better!!


Second I would find a new ped. Gook in the eyes can actually be a sign of an ear infection too. The fact that they didn't even look in the ears at all While it is extremely rare for a child under 2 to get strep throat it can happen, so that wouldn't fly at all with me!
I hope she is feeling better

ive been unhappy with this ped for a while but keep giving them more chances because my dh thinks im insane for changing for a 3rd time. but now im upset. i hope imnot harming my baby ive been so good about hand washing and keeping everything clean i dont know how this could have happend!

My ped automattically checks ears, mouth and listens to chest at each appointmetn. no matter what i'm there for. honestly, he starts doing it half the time before i explain what going on.

I changed my ped 3x's before I found the one we are with now. You need to feel supported by your ped. Plus they need to do their job correctly!!

they usually do so i dont know why they didnt that day. i notice when the waiting room is full i get rushed along alot more. its not a very pleasent experience

im sorry and i know you are frustrated megan. i had this with alex for 6 weeks, from the end of sept. until the beginning of november!!

they told me also that babies under 2 dont get strep and they arent supposed to even swab them

it wasnt until 5 weeks later, and about 7 visits that they finally gave alex amoxicillin for an ear infection and miraculously everything else cleared up too!!!

thanks ladies.. and laura thanks im glad im not alone! i feel like these doctors are going to think im making this stuff up but im really not!

My daughter had strep at 21 months.

Never is strong word.

I'd be seeking a different doctor too.
