I'm worried about the baby
With the loss of my father this past weekend, I'm just in a total state of shock, moving from a feeling of emptiness, to crying and sobbing at all hours of the day.
I'm 14 weeks today - I have been feeling the baby move, but I'm just so worried this could really hurt him/her.
Has anyone been through something like this while pregnant? Was the baby ok?

Re: I'm worried about the baby
I lost my gram in Nov and my mom not even a month later in Dec. I was around 12weeks when I lost my mom. I still have my "bursts" of tears. Everyday is different. I talked to my OB and he told me the baby is very well protected in the sac and the baby should be just fine. So far, so good. I go for my 20 week sono next week and I *THINK* I started feeling flutters yesterday.
If you want to tallk, FM me

Beth - I am so sorry
The baby will be fine, I've had 3 family members early in their pregnancies while suffering the loss of a parent. Babies were born just fine and they all worried just like you.

My cousin lost her 1 year old son(to a disease) while she was pregnant with her next child. The baby was born healthy. So sorry for your loss.

Re: I'm worried about the baby
It's much different then your situation but my grandmother was basically dying pretty much the entire time I was pregnant. She passed away a month before I had Jack. It was very hard for me to deal with knowing that she would never get to meet him - and that was something she always wanted for me....but yet, it was very comforting for my family to have something good to look forward to - my father especially.
I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through, but try to take care of yourself and that little baby

Beth, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad
Your little one is safe in there. There is no medical evidence to support the fact that stress is detrimental to the fetus, unless it's affecting you in some negative way that can have impact (ie, causes you to stop eating, etc). Try to take care of yourself, but it's also important to grieve.

I am sure the baby is fine as everyone else posted.... Just try to take care of yourself the best you can, and in turn, the baby will be taken care of as well.

Re: I'm worried about the baby
I am so sorry for your loss.
My mom was pregnant with me when my grandfather passed. She was in the hospital every day with him until the end (so was I) and from what I understand it was very hard on her...she was his little girl.
She made her self very sick to the point where she had to be cared for...my dad would have to help her shower...but my grandmother came down hard on her to take care of me. And she did...through it all I was fine.
We believe that those who pass and those who enter are forever linked. So I carry a piece of him with me. He knew me and my mom used to say that that was what got her through.

Re: I'm worried about the baby
I am so sorry for your loss. I was 4 months preggo with DS when I lost my mom. The passing of my mom was such a sudden thing that it was so hard to understand. I cried each and everyday. After my mom had passed I said that if she had anything to do with the birth of DS she would and she did. He was born on 8/11 (my sister's b-day) and we came home from the hospital on 8/14 (her b-day).

I am so sorry for your loss Beth.
I lost my Godfather when I was around 14 weeks pregnant with Jake... but it's certainly not the same as losing a parent.
Just try to take it easy on yourself any chance you get.
Take care of yourself.

Re: I'm worried about the baby
First, I just want to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.
Now, to answer your question, I went through more loss and heartache during my pregnancies, you seriously couldn't imagine:
Pregnancy #1:
* MIL diagnosed with cancer * Grandfather (my 'best friend") diagnosed with Alzheimer's/ Dymentia...placed in a Nursing Home * 9/11...I was 4 months pregnant. DH worked in Twin Towers. I feared he was dead for over 4 hours. Worst day of my life. I thought for SURE I lost the baby.
Pregnancy #2:
* MIL passed away...I was 5 weeks PG * Grandfather passed away. It hurt so much I could barely breathe. I was 5 months PG.
I must have went to over 20 wakes during both of my pregnancies.
A few weeks after my grandfather's funeral, I went into pre-term labor with Joey. I was admitted to the hospital for a week for them to stop the labor with Magnesium Thank God they did stop it and he was born on his due date in June.
Both of my boys were born perfectly healthy.
Just be sure to try to stay hydrated, get rest, and take care of yourself. Your dad would want that for you as well.

Re: I'm worried about the baby
I lost both of my parents about 10 years before I got pregnant. It was tough going through the pregnancy without them. However, my mom's sister (who I was fairly close with and who was very excited about my baby) died very suddenly when I was 6 months pregnant and it did open up a lot of emotional stuff for me all over again.
It's rough, but don't worry about the grief affecting the baby. I think it's best to get it out when you can, whenever it feels safe and comfortable. I used to cry in the shower and in the car, when I was alone and could let go without worrying anyone else.
ETA: so sorry for your loss, I know you and your dad were very close......

Re: I'm worried about the baby
When I was about 10 weeks I lost my dad. It was completely devestating and like you I was a mess, hysterical. I made it through and had a beautiful healthy baby. After the funeral we had a sono to make sure everything was ok. If you need to talk we are coming up on 1 year without my dad and I am here for you

Re: I'm worried about the baby
Oh wow, Beth - I had no idea, I am so sorry to hear about your dad
Babies are resilient little suckers - I have no doubt yours is fine. But I would suggest reaching out to your OB and sharing your concerns with him/her. It will give you peace of mind and will keep them updated on what's going on in your life.
