Impetigo
My DS has a rash which we believe is Impetigo (I've already gone to the ped and got antibiotic, steroid and another ointment)
Has anyone had experience with this? How long does it take to go away?
It looks horrible (it's on his upper leg) and he says it hurts (it looks like it does) but, he's really just complaining now about the itching. I gave him some Benadryl (liquid, not ointment) to try to help with the itching but, he's not comfortable.
I have called the pediatrician again as well but just asking in the meantime.
Thanks!

My LO caught it from a bounce place we went to for a bday party. YUK! It was on her face too. It lasted about 2 weeks. Did not scar. I believe we got an antibiotic for it. BE CAREFUL... It's very catchy.

It's been a nightmare. He didn't tell us right away so we didn't know and it spread. Then he had a reaction to the ointments prescribed so now he's just on an oral antibiotic and oral steroid. Trying to get him to take the steroid is painful.. And then dealing with his mood swings is even more painful lol.

Impetigo
Dd was just diagnosed with this and they told me Bactrim should get rid of it within 10 days and that I could use some cortisone cream as well. She has a very mild case thankfully.
She did mention it can sometimes end up with staph. Did they do a culture or anything? I've had eczema end up infected like that and it's so painful and itchy. I used typical and oral steroids along with antibiotics. They started helping within days and I think I was on most of that for two weeks.

They didn't do a culture. Our appt was with the PA and she called in one of the doctors to give a second opinion. After three days of steroids it looks a lot better - the parts that had spread to his face are cleared up.
We used Mupirocin, Silvadine and a cortisone cream. Now it's just oral antibiotics and steroids. After three days of steroids it looks a million times better.
Hope your DD's clears up soon!

I was wrong and meant Bactroban which is the same as Mupirocin. I think that's what I used for my infection along with the steroids and oral antibiotic. Glad it's starting to help! They did tell me to try not to get it wet and only cover it part of the day.

Impetigo
My daughter had this several years ago under her nose. We think from gymnastics. Mupirocin cleared it up within a few days. At first I thought it was just crusty boogers/rash from a runny nose because of the location of it!
