Re: In dark times of your life
i say it's always better to rely on family and friends, rather than to push them away.
sometimes, holding everything inside and trying to deal with whatever issues you have by yourself, only makes matters worse.

Re: In dark times of your life
I usually break down once and then I push people away-I don't want them to see me weak.

ALSO...i have noticed that if you pushed the people that love you the most away, you fall deeper and deeper into sadness...

Re: In dark times of your life
I guess neither. I don't really push them away, but I don't really lean on them either.
Sometimes I feel like my "dark times" are still lighter than their "dark times" so who am I to complain to them.
So I'm more of a pretend there's nothing wrong person.

Me too - kinda. Also - I'm the self-proclaimed queen of independence - so I'm not likely to lean on anyone aside from FI.

I'm a very private person but when I'm down I lean on my best friend, my dh.

Re: In dark times of your life
I rely on my friends and family. This year the darkest time came for DH & I, when his uncle was murdered. When this occurred we both relied on our friends and family to get through that very tough time.

Re: In dark times of your life
I used to very much push people away when I was depressed or going through rough times.. I just felt like I needed to isolate myself from eveyrone and even talking about it seemed WORSE to me
As I've gotten older, I realize how invaluable it is to have close family and good friends to lean on.. not because they have the answers to your problems, but because they often can really make you feel hopeful that the time will come where the dark days will end

That! Probably the two main reason I push.

Re: In dark times of your life
I stay away. I guess this stems from when I tell my friends/certain family members what's wrong or what I'm going through, they always have turned it around and made it about them. what THEY are going through.... what THEY did in the situation. I guess I've never really had anyone who was truly there for me.... until DH.
I rely 100% on my DH for support. He is all I need

Re: In dark times of your life
I've always been independent, and have dealt with my own issues myself, but when I lost the baby back in Feb, it completely shook my world... and I couldn't have gotten thru it all without my family & friends (so I answered 1).

Re: In dark times of your life
I rely more on certain family members and friends. Some want to give advice, which isn't always welcomed, and some don't REALLY listen. Sometimes too, if the problem stems from a bad decision, some people are not as good as others in just being a friend and supporting you without judgement.

Re: In dark times of your life
I'm such a loner and I really don't like to burden people so I push them away. Not the brightest idea but just the way I personally handle things.
