Induction - One doctor practice.

Hey Ladies,

I am currently 40 weeks pregnant and going to my OBGYN later today. I am expecting the need to be induced because I didn't go into labor naturally with my first born.

The only difference this time is that I am going to a practice that has one doctor. Last time the practice had a doctor always on call at the hospital, so there was always someone at the hospital when you went into labor.

Last week my new OBGYN already floated out the idea of having a c-section due to my history of large babies. I would rather not go that route, and hope that he doesn't push C-sections because they would better fit his schedule.

Has anyone had an induction (all i needed was cervadil for 6 hours last labor) with a one doctor practice?

When I went to a 1 doctor practice, he scheduled inductions on his on call day at the hospital. So since he was scheduled at the hospital every Wednesday, he scheduled inductions for Wednesday's.

Yes, I did because my water broke. He was thankfully there to deliver my baby the next morning, but if not, there is another practitioner he uses as a backup (I haven't met her though).

My sister had three scheduled c sections with the same doctor and for some reason he always preferred doing them on a Tuesday.

Yes I did. I had to have 2 rounds of cervadil. He came to check on me each day. Then the day I went into labor and they started Pitocin he was there at the entire time. I have 3 kids and he was there for all of them.
I know when a patient goes into labor he usually cancels his office hours and goes to the hospital in time for delivery.

I was with a one doctor practice. We scheduled the induction a week in advance. I had done the cervidal for 10 hours and then we moved onto pitocin. Took absolutely forever for anything to happen at all. They chose to up the pitocin at certain points (something I would rather avoid next time around) and I believe that was all (besides an epidural and breaking my water). They were VERY against c-sections until absolutely necessary. But I felt like they gave me way too much drugs and crap in the meantime.

Depends on your dr. My current dr is always on call, but the dr I used for DD1 was only on call certain days. I was induced with DD1, took 48 hours, and then was in the hospital for 2 nights after DD was born and didn't see my dr once the whole 4 days.

Sorry, but why would your doctor suggest a csection just because you had previously large babies?

If anything, your body is already stretched out and it should be fine to deliver a big baby once you've already had one.

My doc says with big babies, the first one is hard, but then usually the others come right out. (I had big babies too.)

I'd ask why he's pushing for a csection, before you go into labor and then he tries to convince you while in labor that you need one when you might actually not.
