Infant Early Intervention
Did anyone have an infant evaluated through EI and qualify?
Owen had another evaluation today and is going to get 1 hour of PT and 1 hour of "Play" therapy per week. We have an OT evaluation coming up, he may qualify for that too.
He is 10 months old. Anyone else have any experience with this?
Thanks

I know there is a big difference between 3 months and 10 months, but they just seem so young. I know calling was the right thing to do and the sooner we get working on things the better, but it is so frustrating because you hope for a big "catch up" but it's hard to say if it will come.

Re: Infant Early Intervention
DS gets DI once a week and has an OT eval today, but he started at 15 months. My niece though qualified for PT at 4 months for one side being waaaaaay stronger than the other. Her left side is basically limp and they think it may have had something to do with how she layed in the womb, they're confident it can be fixed with PT. Don't know how often she gets it each week.

Re: Infant Early Intervention
I called to get an appointment for an evaluation with EI this morning. They said they'll see if he needs PT - I am being proactive about this now because I don't want to lose valuable time like I did with his head shape (everyone told me not to worry, but I finally followed my mommy instinct and turns out I was right so I'm just trying to see if he does need any help motor wise). They said I should be getting a call back within the week to make the appointment.
ETA: He's 7 months.

No, not really. Or maybe. I want to ask stuff but I just can't articulate it.
Did you see progress pretty quickly?

very quickly! i wish i did it earlier. Ian had torticollis and gross motor delays. by 9 months the tort was practically gone and at 10 months his motor skills exploded.
just expect stranger anxiety. its the only bad thing about starting at this age. since Ian didn't know her he screamed every time he saw her. i highly recommend not doing exercises the first couple of times and just letting him get to know the therapist. ours jumped right into it so he always associated her to therapy.
HTH!

Re: Infant Early Intervention
DS was evaluated at about 13.5 months. He had stopped rolling over and wouldn't bear weight on his knees. He was mobile, but he would scoot everywhere on his butt. He could sit well, but if he fell out of sitting he couldn't get back into the position. He would stand along furniture but wasn't cruising.
He progressed VERY quickly! After the first visit he was cruising, after the second he was rolling over, 4 months into therapy he was walking. At the 6 month review he was nearly caught up, there were a few things he wasn't doing consistently like walking backwards and kicking a ball so we decided to keep him in the program for 6 more months. It has been about 6 weeks since the last eval and he is completely caught up now.
Good Luck! You will be amazed at how quickly your LO catches up!!!

This may sound like a silly question, but what is EI?

Early Intervention. If you suspect your child has a physical or developmental delay and they are under the age of 3, you can have them evaluated to see if there are delays and if they qualify for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech, etc.
