Infrared heaters

Keep seeing these in home depot and BJ's. Says it heats up to 100 square feet. Anyone use them? This is our first year using oil and I am terrified LOL

But if you get one you have to plug it in and that will jack up your electric bill. They use a lot of electricity.

Re: Infrared heaters

one of the houses we looked at had this. it seemed pretty cool. they only turned it on for rooms they were in, so they *said* it actually saved them money.

thats all i know about them though.

Infrared heaters

We have one. It's fine if you are sitting right in front of it, but does not really provide too much ambient heat. I was worried about the electric bill too and I did not find it to be too bad. I think our bills were in the $100 range all winter (4 adults, toddler, 3000SF home, most adults only home on weekends & at night).
If I had to do it over, I probably would get it, but don't expect it to replace your heat. It really is not more than a space heater. We have a fireplace also, but our den is blocked off from any benefit and tends to be the coldest room in the house.

i should add, the house we looked at had them installed on the ceilings! so it really did warm up the room. it was a cool concept.
