Insert foot in mouth
Not my foot or my mouth. It belongs to my co-worker.
My DH was trying to call me at work. When my line is busy it transfers to another extension. My co-worker picked it up and DH asked for me. My co-worker couldn't understand him and said "Nobody works here by that name".
DH called my cell to see what was going on, I said I was on another call with a customer and to hold on. When I got back to him he told me what just happened w/my co-worker and I told him I don't know why he said that but obviously I still work here. After I got off the phone w/DH I talked to my co-worker and asked if someone called looking for me.
He said "I did get a call but couldn't understand what they were saying. The person sounded like they had marbles in there mouth. Blah mah blah is all I understood.
I said "well that was my husband and since his accident (a brain injury) he doesn't always speak so clearly, especailly when he's tired. Which is was today after seeing a dr for testing".
He apologized, but it still made me sad that someone would talk abt him like that. I know he didn't realize it was him, but it still upset me.
I'm so sensitve and emotional when it comes to him

Re: Insert foot in mouth
awww..you have every right to be sensitive. He didn't know it was him and he was probably busy and rushed and didn't think about who it could possibly be.
Still not an excuse but we could all use some sensitivity lessons.

That would upset me as well. I hope your co-worker is nicer and more sensitive to ANYONE who may be calling your office in the future.

Re: Insert foot in mouth
Its absolutely okay to be sensative about your DH.
I dont think that your coworker intentionally meant to hurt you, however, it doesnt mean its right.
I just think people say foolish things sometimes without thinking. God knows, I have.
I would just let it go.

Yes he does.
I didn't give him a hard time about it, because I know it wasn't done intentional and he felt really bad after he realized who it was.
It just makes me wonder, what ppl say/think about DH when he does call anywhere. Which he hardly does, because he hates the way he sounds.
It will pass...it just has me sad for a moment.

You have every right to be upset/angry with the nativity of your coworker.

Re: Insert foot in mouth
I once lived in a dorm with shared common phones, and one girl's mother had MS and spoke so softly that sometimes you couldn't hear that anyone was on the other line at all. Occasionally we'd hang up, not realizing she was on the line. When we later heard that she cannot speak loudly, we all felt awful for hanging up.
I'm sure it was an honest mistake, but he would have been more sensitive when apologizing to you.

I agree.
My DH grew up in Texas and people are always saying what or it sounds like you have marbles in your mouth. His sister actually tells him this all the time.
Does the Co Worker know about the injury?

Re: Insert foot in mouth
I'm so sorry - of course you feel upset by your co-worker's abrasive behavior. Hopefully this will teach him not to judge others so quickly and dismiss them.

I always make sure I am careful what I say at work- you never know who's family member you might be insulting when saying things like that....

I'm glad you're feeling better now. I'm sure it was an honest mistake and if your co-worker realized it was your DH he would have been more sensitive about it.
Of course it still hurts to hear what someone says about someone you love when they don't realize that person is connected to you.
I'm sure your co-worker will think twice if that situation comes up again and respond differently.
