Re: Insert foot in mouth
I completely understand why you're upset. Your co-worker really should be a bit more sensitive.

Re: Insert foot in mouth
Just bc you can't understand someone doesn't give you the right to say there's no one here by that name and hang up on them - esp. in a place of business. Your coworker should have at least made an attempt. Sounds lazy.
I feel for you with being protective of your DH - people can be so mean without meaning to be...it would hurt my heart too.

Re: Insert foot in mouth
I totally understand why you are upset. I think it's okay for your co-worker to simply tell you that it was a bit difficult to understand your husband and that they apologize for not realizing it was him. Anything beyond that was inappropriate, especially the part about only hearing "blah blah blah." It sounds like they will not do that again, though.

Re: Insert foot in mouth
OMG I am so sorry, that is horrible. Did you tell your DH what this person said? Your poor DH has an injury, he should not have to be insulted as well. I am so sorry!

Re: Insert foot in mouth
I'm sorry.
I can relate. My dad has expressive aphasia as a result of his stroke. He knows what he wants to say but it can take a long time to say even one word, sometimes his brain "gets stuck" and he keeps saying a word he doesn't mean to say, and forget about sentences or conversing back and forth. I feel your pain
What I HATE the most is when people see my father's lack of conversational speech as a lack of intelligence, they are condescending towards him or they just talk louder at him
Many to you and your DH.

Re: Insert foot in mouth
oh i'm so sorry!
you have every right to be bummed - i'd be the same way.
i'm sure i'll have plenty of these moments in my future - a lot of people just don't know much about traumatic brain injury and what can happen to those who have survived it -- the effects on their ability to speak and do everyday things we take for granted. i wish their was more awareness about TBI's -- it is like when people ask me "so when do they expect kenneth to be talking again? is he walking yet? what about going back to work? what's the prognosis?? what do you MEAN they DON'T know?" lol i have to laugh - b/c, if i don't laugh i'll cry!
you know how it is. BIG to you!!!!!

No I would never tell DH what he said. I just told him, my co-worker couldn't understand what you said. But he wanted to apologize.
DH was just getting back from testing and was tired. And when he's tired he slurs his speech more than usual. He usually talks pretty clearly.
I normally don't let things like this bother me, but some days I can't help it.
I better about it today.

I remember those day very clearly I would tell people, "when I know you will know. Believe me, I want to share any and all good news!"

Still not an excuse but we could all use some sensitivity lessons.
Seriously!
