insulin and cats
I have a 12 year old persian cat who is in good health other than he was diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago. He takes insulin shots twice a day. When DH can hold him down it works ok but if for any reason DH is not around and I have to do it alone its a total struggle. Tonight he bit at me and scratched my arm with his tooth, nothing ferocious but it was a very difficult battle to inject him. My Vet initially made this sound so easy. Tonight I tried to inject him while he was eating so he would be distracted but it didn't help and ideally the shot should be 20 minutes after a meal. He is very alert, decent appetite, doesn't seem at all like he is in any pain so I don't want to put him down. I feel like I am torturing him and its such a battle to try to help him by giving him shots. Anyone else deal with this sort of thing?

Re: insulin and cats
I have an 11 year old diabetic dog who needs shots 2xs a day so I know what you are going thru. He is a breeze to deal with luckily...but my other little pup used to be a nightmare to administer any pills or ear drops or anything to. For her, our vet suggested wrapping her up in a blanket or towel...it kept her immobile...it might work for your cat? Good luck...it's tough!!
