Insulin resistance - Clomid/Metformin related
Ok, so some of you may already know my situation, since I post here pretty frequently: PCOS, not yet determined if I'm IR, going to meet with RE on 12/17.
Anyway, this is a question for anyone who has ever or is taking Clomid or Metformin. This just dawned on me the other day: Since both of these drugs are mostly used for diabetics, does that mean that one might have an adverse reaction when eating sugar? I mean, I know that I'm a carb addict and that I need to seriously cut down on my sugar intake, BUT...what will happen if, say, I have a few of my mom's rainbow cookies on Christmas? Will I get really sick from it, if I'm on either of these meds?
As I said, I'm not sure that I am IR, but judging from the way my body responds to sugar, I'm thinking I may be.
Thanks as always!

I'm not IR, but am on a Clomid/Met combo. Yes, you should be careful with your sugar and carb intake while on Met, but like everything else, moderation is key. I very rarely eat sugar, but for example last night we were out to dinner at a restaurant where my step-mother wants to have a party for my dad, so they brought out this huge plate of dessert samples for the party.. you better believe I partaked in that. Once in a while is okay, just don't overdo it.

I am taking clomid and metformin, and honestly, I haven't really changed my diet very much. I have some bad days, but am for the most part ok. I like my sugary foods too! I am sure you will be fine eating your mom's christmas goodies!

Ditto!! I haven't changed my diet at all. I actually just got tested again the other day because I wasnt sure if I was truly "IR." I found out that my glucose levels were fine but my insulin to glucose ratio was off, which in turn makes me IR. I was supposed to go this morning to check liver and kidney function so I can start Metformin again. I've been off it for about 3 weeks and I'm EXHAUSTED all the time. I'm wondering if that has something to do with it?
