Insurance on Engagement ring....any insurance agents here??

I have always had a seperate policy for my engagement ring. My cousin insists that my home owners will cover my eringand wedding band. My thinking is YES it will if my house is robbed BUT if I lose it on the street or am mugged on the street it won't...right?

I am not an agent, but with Travelers (for renters insurance) they made us have a seperate policy because the rings were over a certain amount of money. We just switched to Allstate (again for renters insurance) and they insure it right on the same policy. And we are covered if I am mugged, lose it outside the home, etc.

I have a rider on my homeowners specifically for my e-ring and band. The homeowners alone would not cover the replacement value of either ring.
Check the policy to find out exactly what jewelry and how much it covers.

Not a insurance agent but certain items need to be scheduled separately.

I have one for my jewelry, listed with replacement estimate (good reminder, i probably need updated estimates), one for my camera & lenses, one for DH's band equipment.

I have all my jewelry on a separate floater for my Homeowners policy. You provide appraised values and they insure them on your policy and it includes theft.

Call your homeowners folks and ask. Its a very common practice.

I have State Farm and had to get a separate policy for my ering.

you can put it on most homeowners poicies but it needs to be scheduled. It will nto automatically be covered.

ok, heres how it works.

I work for SF.

there is coverage under a home but its minimal for jewlery. it has a deductible and then the company pays the rest, but it max up to $2500-$5000.

A seperate policy, or a rider, is usually needed to help pay for the entire loss of the ring, it normally has NO deductible and can cover a replacement of the ring- to the full amount.

I am an agent and each insurance company is different. Some you are able to add it to your homeowners, as long as it is scheduled for the full value of the ring (you may need to provide an apprasial) Other companies have a rider that attached to your homeowners policy. As long as you insure it as a Schedule Item and for the full value, it will be insured no matter where you lose it.

Called my home owners...value of the ring is too high and needs its own policy.
