Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
I called my insurance and was told its not covered... I believe they said it was over $2,000. Those of you getting it done, is your insurance covering it? If not, how much are you paying? TIA!

Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
Most insurance companies do not cover it. It is a very new test.

Re: Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
My OB told me that it is not covered by any insurance because it is so new. What you will pay out of pocket varies on your insurance. I think if I were to pay for it, it would cost me about $450 (I'm not doing it).

Re: Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
I heard if you call the company directly they will charge you between 230-400 dollars for the test and bill your insurance company for the rest. Even if they don't cover it you will be considered paid in full. I haven't tried it bc I don't qualify for the test but I did a lot of research on it last week when I thought I might qualify for it. Good Luck!

Re: Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
I was told it was 100% covered but then didn't realize it was a $235 copay..this is the least anyone will pay. Now i'm nervous because my insurance said it was covered as long as it was FDA approved...my doctors office said it was, but i see on their website that it is NOT. I'm sick over it now..I should have just waived the test...I felt like they really recommended/pushed it because it was so non-invasive and im "high risk" because of my age at delivery (35) and previous ectopic...ugh

Re: Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
I was told max out of pocket co pay was $235 regardless of insurance covering it or not. Which mine did..Insurance sent me a check and I got a bill for about $2500. but regardless of that the place I had it done said a flat $235, which I paid up front the day I had the bloodwork done.

Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
When I took the test, I think I paid $250. The insurance didn't cover it, but I didn't get another bill. That was approximately 8 months ago. Sequenom was trying to get insurance companies to cover it and was accepting just the up front amount from the patient. You can call and find out if they're still doing that.

Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
I posted above that I never received a bill, but I got one today for $1800! I will have to call Sequenom since they had told me the up front amount was my only out of pocket...Hope they stand by that!
Update: I called Sequenom and they adjusted my account, so I don't owe anything.

Re: Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
I was also told it was not covered but it was only $230. This was from a perinatal office. I'm going to find out more about this if I do decide to have the blood test. I do not want to wind up with a $2000 bill

Re: Insurance won't cover maternit21 test?
I had called Seqenom beforehand b/c my insurance company wasn't sure what the test was and wanted me to get the insurance code before they could say if it was covered. Sequenom told me that they try to bill your insurance and usually get it back. Then they send an explanation to the insurance company to request a review. They told me IF the company won't cover it, the most I will be charged out of pocket is $235, My doctors office told me when I got the test that I will get a bill for around $2000 and to call Sequenom when I do (not the doctors office) and Sequenom will adjust it.
