International Travel - passport in maiden name?
Is it a problem/illegal to have a passport in your maiden name?
Reason I ask is - we got stranded on our honeymoon in Feb. So DELTA gave us free vouchers for a flight but mine is in my maiden name. Can I use my passport since its in my maiden name still and the names will match? Not sure if I can change the name on the voucher....

As long as your airline tickets match the passport, you're fine. I still travel with my maiden name and never have an issue.

Re: International Travel - passport in maiden name?
you should be able to call the airline and change the voucher.
my mom got a voucher from delta too when she got stranded, and she was able to have it transferred into my name so i could use it. all she had to do was call.

If the names differ on any of your paperwork, just bring your marriage certificate and it will not be a problem. Trust me My DH works at JFK and they get this question ALL the time. All you have to do is say you haven't been able to change it yet, show them the marriage cert, and it will be fine.

where are you going? Sometimes its not just about getting on the plane - they ask to see your passport in other places. Also, are you going with any kids?

Re: International Travel - passport in maiden name?
just don't change your passport.
leave it as your maiden name when you use the vouchers and book the flight in your maiden.
remember, they do not KNOW your married, they don't care if you're married or not. they care about the name that is listed on the passport. so if you book travel again with the vouchers, then just do it in the name that is on your passport and that's it...no harm, no foul.
ETA: I've been married since 2007, and traveled out of the country several times since then, and have just always booked flights in my maiden name. i won't change my passport until it expires in 2012

Re: International Travel - passport in maiden name?
If you are not traveling immediately, I would just send it in and get it fixed. I sent my old passport in with the marriage certificate, I didn't have to take new pictures or anything, they returned the passport in a few weeks with a notation on the back page about an amended name.

Re: International Travel - passport in maiden name?
I have been travelling in a passport that isn't in my married name for 11 years, its never been a problem so long as my ticket is booked in the same name. I always carry a copy my marriage certificate with me also. It shouldn't post a problem.

Re: International Travel - passport in maiden name?
have them put BOTH last names - maiden and married -on your ticket AND take a marriage certificate with you. My passport has my maiden name on it and my green card and everything else has a married name, so I was told by my lawyers and travel agents to do the above, so that's what I have been doing and never had any problems.
