Interviewing for jobs while pregnant
Has anyone done this?
I am not pregnant but my husband and I are doing IVF and are very hopeful... at the same time (because life always has awesome timing for me) my husband has a job possibility where we would locate closer to family. We are really considering it but I would have to find a new job as well. If IVF works (and hopefully im not jinxing myself here) I would probably be pregnant during interviews. Granted it would be early so I wouldn't be showing but is it something that should be disclosed? Does it matter? Not really sure how it works.
Keep in mind this is all "what if" but I am trying to think a few months into the future to get a better idea of what we should really do
Thanks

It doesnt have to be disclosed and legally they cant not hire you because you are pregnant. Even if you were 9 months pregnant at your interview they cannot ask you about when you're due etc. Definitely go for it and dont let being pregnant (or possibly getting pregnant in the near future) stop you. The only caveat is that you may not be given any paid maternity leave if you're only employed for a short time before giving birth. Good luck with everything!!

The big thing to worry about is maternity leave. Most companies won't provide that if you haven't worked there for a certain amount of time.

I worked for my company for years and didn't get paid leave. That depends on the company no matter what, but your job may not even be held if you haven't worked there a certain amount of time.

Interviewing for jobs while pregnant
I remember NervousNell had success interviewing while pregnant.
I interviewed once but did not get the position. It worked out for the best though.

Thanks! I am not worried about the paid leave (I wouldn't be getting paid leave where I am anyhow) but am concerned about having a job to go back to. Either way I am glad it seems to not really be that big of a deal

A prior company that I worked for hired several women when they were pregnant. Good luck!

Personally, I would not disclose a pregnancy if I wasn't showing. At one of my college jobs, I overheard two supervisors talking about a woman who just interviewed for a full time position. One supervisor told the other supervisor that the woman was pg, and that other supervisor basically said forget her then. They were both women too. Yes, they can't discriminate based on pregnancy but they can find another reason not to offer you the job.
That aside, keep in mind you may not be entitled to FMLA (unpaid leave for up to 12 weeks) since you will be there for less than 1 year when the baby is born (assuming all goes well). Good luck!

I was told by a recruiter not to interview once I was visibly pregnant. She told me that while some companies might not have an issues with it the majority of employers do not want to invest in an employee who may be out on maternity leave within the first six months of being with the company. I think that it varies by field and company.

Dont disclose & from someone who went thru IVF.....go one day at a time & worry about today & not how prego you "MIGHT" be at that time. I wish you all the luck in the world. IVF really stinks. I have twins now but took me 5 FRESH cycles.

I wouldn't disclose and would try to hide if possible. While they cant not hire you b/c you are pregnant, they can just say they didn't hire you for a different reason or found someone better.

Interviewing for jobs while pregnant
This is so hard.. while I was pregnant with my daughter, I stayed put because when I was looking, I was visibly pregnant, and near the end, so I just grunted and stayed. I'm trying now (and have been for a year), exactly a year ago, I had an offer and I didn't take it because I anticipated that I would get pregnant right away, and it wouldn't be fair to me and to my team etc. Here I'm a year later, no baby and not pregnant and still trying. My take is, if you are not pregnant now, then there is nothing stopping you from looking at other oppurtunities, and if you do get pregnant, what can you do.. life happens! Good luck with your decision.

Re: Interviewing for jobs while pregnant
i would not disclose But the concern would be that you are not eligible for FMLA...which means you may not have job security

Yes, FMLA doesnt kick in until youre there for a year and they could fire you for the missed time. Some jobs may also not offer health insurance for a certain period so you may have to pay for your own.
I interviewed and received a job offer while pregnant but I would have started the new job after my leave was over so it was a non issue for the new employer.
